It took me a little while to discover what GA1 was on your site. I saw a video and now understand. I do not think you are on track. If I am wrong, then great for you. However, I think your value proposition, concept, and site are all off!
No on the "I love GA1". I don't get why anyone would suggest you can love the disorder. It just doesn't make any sense. I can understand promting an uplifting and positive attitude about living with the disease, and particularly why that would be important if someone in your family has it.
No on the job listing and job searching. Neither are directly relevant to your theme. They might be indirectly related, for instance the need involved with the additional ongoing medical costs. However, to present your site with that focus looks contradictory and somewhat unprofessional.
No on the dating. I can't imagine how that is even indirectly related! That is not an activity conducive to promoting awareness of the disorder, and I don't think the primary subject matter is attractive for facilitating dating, especially since most people involved would be families with kids trying to hold it together.
With that said, please check out Shannon's site http://tttsupport.com/ for an example of the direction I think you should take. The purpose of her site is to raise awareness and create a community to support another rare childhood disease.
Yes on the "social" though. By creating the community, you may find the interests in employment and dating are served. However, the positive culture you want to promote despite the disease can be a drivng theme, and therein between awareness, support, and encouragement of positive outlook you can garner monetization from sponsors within industry. For an example, see http://www.1sweetlife.org/ which is another Ning focussed on Diabetes with a positive twist.
Hope that helps!
Best,
Anthony
Permalink Reply by Josh Mayfield on April 27, 2012 at 5:12pm I think that i will write a little more about the job listing and the dating thing on the site but first off i will tell you
I will start out by saying i do love having this disorder
2nd thing about the job thing its hard for handicap people like me to find a job so old people this disorder or any other disorder would love to be able to go to a site like mine to find a job
Same as for dating its hard for people like us to find dates girlfriends wives so why not put it on my site

Permalink Reply by Nor Cal Social Media on April 27, 2012 at 5:57pm Hey, just noticed your reply. For some reason site update is not sending me the notice you replied FYI.
Hmmm....
So why do you love having the disorder?
How does it handicap you from getting a job?
How does it make it hard for you to date?
I didn't find any info on intial scan of your site that made any of that clear.

Permalink Reply by Nor Cal Social Media on April 27, 2012 at 8:09pm That is quite an interesting story Josh. I understand a lot better now. Thanks for sharing!
So I guess your site will make a lot more sense and speak to people with GA1- or perhaps others who understand the nature of living with it. I think it is great that you are proud of your life, and how you've been able to make an impact on society specifically because you have this.
What a fascinating dating dynamic! Congratulations to you on finding love. Your site could definitely support an unmet need.
I think for sure you have the potential for accomplishing what you want. I still think you need to keep working hard to improve. Don't give up on the education in computers and web-mastering etc. You still can present yourself, your story, and your business model (to get advertising sponsors etc.) much much better. You don't need the affiliation nor accreditation, but if you can that will be a huge accomplishment and probably open doors for a substantial career- at the least being an advocate or ambassador for GA1.
If you can find a way to afford it, I think you should think about hiring a professional agency to help you tell your story with the quality it deserves, and also to run the site for you. Even with your limitations, that doesn't mean you can't make smart decisions to surround yourself with a team that can help you accomplish what you want. However, if you are like me and cannot afford that, then you have to rely on hard work and self-education.
Let me recommend a couple resources for you to look into.
You are an inspiration. What you can accomplish is only limitted by your ambition. Go for it man!!!
Best, Anthony
