So I never thought I'd be providing tips here at NING Creator, I'm certainly not qualified for that. However, I want to share my experience with you.
See slider at GenYHub.com (if your pointer is on the photo it will pause...otherwise it is set for 5 seconds between slides)
I wanted a stunning slider to add to my homepage. I searched Google for a slider template and came across WOWSlider.com. The program is free if you are not using it commercially. I am a digital magazine/original content network, so I had to pay $50.00 to license my site.
The program is fantastic, with easy input and many, many options. Please go check it out. It is worth the money. Note: Your .jpgs are only as good as your resolution and graphic design, so pay attention to this when assembling your slider.
I have a 3-column layout and I wanted to place my slider above the left and middle columns. That space is equal to 730px wide, but the photos were too overwhelming at that size, so I used Photoshop to create a 730px by 300px black box, added my 640px by 300px jpgs, and some white shadowed text that I laid over both the photo and extra black space. The WOW Slider easily adds the title, description, and effect...and accurately writes the code.
Now to install. I am a member of JenSocial and sought Jen's advice and skills. At this time, the best way to add a slider is to have an outside server host the .html files then bring them in through an iframe. Of course, Jen provided the code to make that happen...and the external server (Misk.com) is costing me $25.00 year as an add-on package to an unused domain name I have with them. I used FileZilla (free software) to upload the files to Misk.
That's it. Go check it out.

Permalink Reply by Sylvia Hysen on January 28, 2012 at 8:32am Yes the number of words is important. Did you try to put the photo first, text after? Just to see if your feed processes the photos in this way? Also where is your blog feed located? Is it on the left column of a 3 column layout?
Just trying to pinpoint what it is I'm doing that could be replicated.
And thank you for the support with Stygo. I wasn't expecting that kind of reaction.
Permalink Reply by Tiffany Lane-Crane on January 28, 2012 at 8:44am I did place the photo first, but you said a key word, "blog" I was trying to do this in my discussion block. Ah ha! That may be it, I'll try it with a blog. I've just got to get some images in that text box, looks hum drum without it. Yours looks fab! I've worked straight through the night and am nodding, lol, so gonna try it in a bit, thx again for all your help. And yes anyone reading your post and then reading that particular post wouldnt expect that reaction.

Permalink Reply by Sylvia Hysen on January 28, 2012 at 8:35am I just read the word "discussion" in the above post. Do you mean blog post? Not sure if that is the difference.
Permalink Reply by Tiffany Lane-Crane on January 29, 2012 at 7:19pm Hey Sylvia! So I've done some investigation. It does seem that you can add the pictures so they display on your home page to blogs but not to forums, or as I call them on my network "discussions." I think we got a little confused with the terms because I had to remember that I'd changed the word "forum" to "discussion" in my language editor. So I've been able to use your neat trick on the "blog" post, or what I changed to be "journal" posts. You've been great, thx so much and I look forward to sharing ideas too! :)

I LOVE your site concept, Tiffany. And it seems we are practically neighbors. I look forward to sharing ideas.
I'm going to shoot you an email today.

Permalink Reply by Stygo Alphamatt on January 28, 2012 at 6:00am Sylvia Hysen shares something she installed recently. It's her Great Slider: Must See!
I have to speak out on this, but before I start I would like to make it clear that this is not personal neither to Eric nor to Slyvia. I don't consider this as something that will appear on the "Best of the Week Creators Digest" because this is nothing new, special or unique . This is just like most other slides out there and also as a member of JensSocial i have come across better Slides which does not cost that much. The Slide am using on my Network is made with Flash Slide Show Maker Professional and it does also the same and has even better Transitions, and it is much cheaper because it cost almost the same as this but it is not limited to a web page. Once paid, one can use it on my pages or projects.
As i opened my In box and read through Great Slider: Must See, then i was expecting something very unique and to be honest the Click and the reading of this Article is nothing but a wasted time and i guess most people who came here, had the same feeling. If this is so special then there would have been more response than Just 3 ( Illya, Martin & Tiffany ) from the 400 people who has came here to read this.
Without wasting much time and words here i would like to beseech Eric to please consider what you send to us the NC's through the "Best of the Week Creators Digest"
Once more, am not saying that because this is not unique to me that it is irrelevant on the "Best of the Week Creators Digest" but considering the amount of people who came here and the response this could be considered as irrelevant and the Caption is very catchy but misleading.
I take the "Best of the Week Creators Digest" serious because as an NC am always looking for a way to improve my Network but i don't appreciate wasting my time on trivial like this and recently there has been a lot of such in the "Best of the Week Creators Digest" which is not good.
Lastly to me this seems to be a hidden advert for "wowslider.com" I dearly wish that am wrong on this point because such things takes the seriousness out of the "Best of the Week Creators Digest"

Permalink Reply by Stygo Alphamatt on January 28, 2012 at 9:56am Hi Sylvia,
Honestly I would like to say sorry for making you feel embarrassed but i will not say that, because if i do it would be like it was just my intention to make you feel embarrassed. It could be anybody else but the topic; great slider: must see on the Digest was the last drop that got the cup spilling.
Once more i have nothing against you because i don't know you and i have nothing against your topic being featured only I expect from the admins here to feature things that are really ning core and affects the generality of the NC's not just any trivial experience.
It is not a matter of being well versed on ning or anything like that and to state it honestly clear the little knowledge i have on ning is based on taking my time to read through all the important issues, through the Digest and also joining JenSocial and also reading all the important issues there too, so now you might have a clue what it means to separate between very important issues and trivials.
What am trying to say here is that recently there are a lot of trivials on the Digest like this topic here and: What Do you Think of My Local Cycling Site? from Julie Hochstadter, while some topics like :Sharing a Facebook "Liked" Ning-Post (Event or Blog) is NOT allowed inside Facebook posted by Richard which affects almost every NC's using Facebook to drive traffic to their Networks never get any attention at all. Before the Digest was a summary of the most important topics of the week, now it is just nothing to take seriously anymore.
Talking about rep or not, i did not put an url to FSSMP like you did to wowslider but i would not go further on that because that is not the main point that i am trying to state here. The point is that the standard of the topics on the Digest nowadays is much lower as it used to be and for someone like me who reads almost all the things, it is time wastage clicking and wasting time on such like this.
I am not fantastic or having joy wasting my time on this and i do not in anyway intend to embarrass you. I could as well started this issue as a new topic but then it would not get much attention like here where am stating it on an example.
@Tiffany Lane-Crane; I am not saying that it is wrong for her to share her experience or showcase her achievements here, she did and it is her full right. The big question is? Is this so important to all NC's to be so high-pitched in the Digest? I have seen many topics get more responses that this within just a quarter of an hour.
Lastly, I can only employ you dear Sylvia not to take this too personal but i would not like to be lured in the future to read every experience an NC made or just showcasing. I bet some people came here and felt like me, but did not write it down because it is very hard to tackle such an issue without it looking as if some one has anything personally against you or Eric.
Every NC should have the right to share his experience or showcase his efforts here on "ning creators" but the "Best of the Week Digest" should not loose it's standard just because of that.
This is all i wanted to say and i would be a big coward coming here, and feeling this way without speaking out. I take my ning network serious and it is all about biz and time is money.
