Groups Alphabetical Order and Group Discussion Categories?

 

Any chance we will be able to organize Groups in the near future? Are either of these features on the near-future roadmap?

• The ability to alphabetize Groups?
• The ability to add Categories to Group Discussions?

 

Not only am I constantly reminded on my own Networks how badly these features are needed, I am asked about this very often.

Although it would be great to have this available automatically, I have created a work-around for this...

• A topic list that has a link for all groups in the category, as well as forum, blog, photo, and video content. Please note, this is currently being repaired, so it is not yet complete.
• A group list that is seperated into categories, then alphabetized...
• You will notice that I add a "tag" to each group, and that can also be a category... I use this to organize groups by global, country, state, and city groups, but I could also use it to organize interest groups, support groups, etc.

Janettee, that only works if your search function works, which mine doesn't. (I tried your workaround).  Any word I type in the Group search box comes up "no results found" so there's no way for me to categorize using that method.

Nope, my method only uses TAGS. For Groups, that's the "location". Look at some of the links and you'll see:)

I would love for groups to be organized just like the we have them set up here.

 

Additionally, I would love the ability to related blogs and events to groups. So if there is an event a group is putting on you would see the relationship and visa versa.

 

This would rock my members world.

This is needed. Plus "groups you might like" based on groups friends are members of, or in relation to profile question answers. And perhaps something showing similar groups already created to cut down on duplicates...?

Yep, it would help alot to have the choice to alphabetize groups on the group page. I'm in the process of creating an html page with my groups in alphabetical order today, because we have to have to have this, just as our forums page is listed in Category (alphabetical) order.

This is needed in groups, photos, movies just like we already have it in the main forum. The current lack of this spells chaos.
