Content, content content [constant flow of new posts] and cross-posting [backlinks] at other sites will help get your site name out there, boost SEO and page rank.  Facebook is great however are you asking for new members there and cheerleading for them to join?  Many times on FB I just see people post but not encourage people to join.  

This may sound strange however you might consider signing up for a blog-sharing site like http://myguestblog.com  While they're always looking for sites with high page rank, it's also a way to attract new members and get your site "out there".  Looks as though they have a ton a categories which may work in your site [approve blog posts b4 posting].  Be certain you watch out for spammers or those only wishing to promote their business though AND have a blogger terms of service they must adhere to.  You can check out my blogger terms of service @ http://stockbuz.ning.com/page/blog-terms-of-service

As a side note, I love this and how the tabs expand!  Would you mind sharing the code or was it custom made for you?
