How do i make my NING Website compatible with IE8 and earlier versions?

Dear all,

I have set up a NING Website for my company and everything looks pretty good so far. Unfortunately, when my colleague who uses Internet Explorer 8 looks at the website, many things are not correctly displayed. Attached is a picture that compare the look of a part of the website in IE and Chrome.

It seems to me that IE8 doues not understand my CSS instructions. Does anyone know what exactly is compatible with IE8 and what not? Is there some kind of list on the web that tells me what is allowed in IE8 and what not? Or do any of you know how to fix the specific problems I show in the attachment?

I hope you can help me, I'm kind of frustrated, after all this work I find out that my website actually looks crappy on IE8 (probably one of the most used browsers around).

Thanks,

Rapahel

Ask them to get the latest EI

Emmanuel, depending on company policy, this might not be directly possible.

Raphael, this document by MS might help.  For what its worth, IE usage is down to 21% overall.  For the immediate future, my money is on Chrome and Firefox.

Agreed - it's an IE issue, always has been hence their "add to compatibility mode" malarkey. My sister owns a web design company - ask her how she feels about IE. Simply put, it's a horrible browser and needs to die off.

I've run a variety of websites and when someone contacts me saying "I'm having an issue with your site in IE" my response is "then don't use IE."

Yep, very similar around here. A small number of my users mentioned that their experience was less than optimal.  Switching to Firefox seemed to have solved all the issues, in all cases.

Which basically means that the ning platform is more happy with Firefox and other browsers than with IE. I can certainly live with that  (heck, I applaud that!), but I wonder if ning could communicate that more clearly?

I'm glad to hear only 21% use IE anymore. Internet Explorer has been the worst browser for years now. Unfortunately, telling our clients to upgrade or change their browser is not an option.

I did some more research, and finally stumbled upon this forum. This seems to have done the trick. I don't really know what made the difference, I just copied the CSS someone posted in the forum and worked from there. If anyone is experiencing the same problem as I did, this will certainly help.

Thanks again for your help guys!
