How do I use my own domain so the Ning doesn't show in the url?

There are three places that need to be edited to enable this feature.

First, you need to purchase and configure a domain at a registrar. At the most basic level, you should set up a CNAME record or A record to point a subdomain to your Ning Network. This will look like sub.domain.com >> CNAME >> network.ning.com. We provide a number of tutorials on how to do this at registrars including GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Yahoo!, Register, DomainMaze and 1&1. If you don't see yours listed, feel free to contact us for help, but be sure to include the name and url of your registrar!

Next, head to the Premium Services section of your Manage tab to sign up for the service. Be sure to add the full domain where prompted, so you are using community.domain.com or www.domain.com rather than just domain.com. As long as your CNAME or A record is configured at your registrar, your purchased domain should now display your network!

The final step in this process ensures your domain never shows the "ning" subdomain. This only works if the previous two steps are 100% correct! At the Advanced Options section of your Manage tab there is a Domain Redirection feature. Within this feature, choose the full domain of your network including the subdomain.

Voila! Your network should no longer display Ning in the url or notifications.

I do agree Jp!! I use Godaddy and it works great .. especially if you are not a web person as I am not:)
If you're going to use godaddy, it's worth making friends with this Ning help page which moved recently but I found it again using Google (Ning searches having failed to locate it)
any one tell me that how redirect my old ning network to the new one bcz the old one was hacked by some and he cahnged the owner email address so i want to redirect my users to the other new network
We subscribe to Ning Premium Services and LOVE IT!

It was relatively painful to get it all set up and we have found the support that Ning offers to be excellent.

Can't use GoDaddy over here as any domains from GoDaddy seem to be blocked in China. ;-)
:D
i've been trying for weeks to get a thank you page and download page for my ning site. I want it to look like this:

www.nammas.org/thankyou
www.nammas.org/download

How can I do this??? it's been so frustrating I'm thinking of moving hosting to host gator....
Hi Lori,

You won't be able to have those exact urls; one alternative is to create a couple of new pages via the tab manager called download and thankyou. This will leave you with 2 pages at urls like:

http://www.nammas.org/page/download or
http://oncedaily.ning.com/page/download-1

You can then populate them with content.
yes, but I don't want those pages visible to the network. Members would see those after they go through my opt-in box on the page (thank you) and then get the free download (download page). Is there a way to do that other than hosting the site at another provider...thereby risking losing content I presume?
Hi Lori,

You can bookmark the page urls and then delete them from the tab manager, or else you can make them subtabs of the Manage page. Doing either of those means that the urls won't be linked to in the tab menu, but visitors would still be able to access them directly via the url.

The other alternative is to use a third party host on a subdomain just for those 2 pages; you could have a subdomain for each, like thankyou.nammas.org and download.nammas.org and put static html pages at each.
By they way, how'd you get that "new here? how to get started" tabby thing that pops up for the Getting Started tab? And how did you make that download example invisible with the other tabs?
I can no longer access my ning network after doing this? Now what?
Hi Randy,

If you turned this one without having your DNS mapping set up correctly, you can visit:

yournetwork.ning.com/admin/index/editDomainRedirection and update the settings again.

Replace yournetwork with the correct subdomain for your network.

If you're still having problems, let us know via the help center.
