How do I use my own domain so the Ning doesn't show in the url?

There are three places that need to be edited to enable this feature.

First, you need to purchase and configure a domain at a registrar. At the most basic level, you should set up a CNAME record or A record to point a subdomain to your Ning Network. This will look like sub.domain.com >> CNAME >> network.ning.com. We provide a number of tutorials on how to do this at registrars including GoDaddy, Network Solutions, Yahoo!, Register, DomainMaze and 1&1. If you don't see yours listed, feel free to contact us for help, but be sure to include the name and url of your registrar!

Next, head to the Premium Services section of your Manage tab to sign up for the service. Be sure to add the full domain where prompted, so you are using community.domain.com or www.domain.com rather than just domain.com. As long as your CNAME or A record is configured at your registrar, your purchased domain should now display your network!

The final step in this process ensures your domain never shows the "ning" subdomain. This only works if the previous two steps are 100% correct! At the Advanced Options section of your Manage tab there is a Domain Redirection feature. Within this feature, choose the full domain of your network including the subdomain.

Voila! Your network should no longer display Ning in the url or notifications.

Ooops... please disreguard. I just did it and Ning detected it somehow and displayed the message "We're sorry, this site can't be embedded in a frame...." It covered the top half of my site with a pink shade... LOL. It also provided links for setting up your own domain on Ning (but of course).

So that brings me to the question, is there a code that disables their Frame Detector? I personally don't mind paying the 5 bucks a month but obviously some of us do.
If I change my ning network to start using my own domain name, will it re-direct the members of my site to the new address when they try to access the old URL?
I have a ning network www.meetoouites.com. It was working perfectly well until the new plans emerged. On Aug 5 2010, it went offline only to come up online unless i add .ning.com to the URL.

I have however purchased a plan and have done the CNAME resolving of a thing still when i enter my URL www.meetoouites.com, it automatically redirects to www.meetoouites.ning.com

How can i correct this? Its kinda frustrating. Thanks

Ask someone else if I am right before you use my advice. I think if you delete the line with the cname in it you should be okay.
Hello Marcus,

Thanks for the help. I actually dont understand what you mean by me deleting the line with the cname in it. Kindly clarify pls. I am new to all cname stuffs.. My bad. Thanks
You seriously don't have to be a programmer or a professional webmaster to yourdomain.ning.com to yourdomain.com You can use all the registrars mentioned in the beginning of this thread. The following is my suggestion. You can purchase a one year business hosting plan at webmasters dot com (hereafter named "the host") and register ONE primary domain name (hereafter know as "main site") there too. Then you can register up to 98 additional domain names at name dot com and point them all to the primary and secondary DNS of the host. Then in controlpanel you can create 98 so called "add-on domains" which share the root of main site so that you on't need 98 additional hosting plans. The other advantage is that each has a seperate, unique DNS record. In that DNS record you point the A record for http://yourdomain.com and the A record for http://www.yourdomain.com to the IP of your ning network. And repeat this for each of the max 98 other ning networks you own and voila!
wow....maybe i did the wrong thing. My site isnt coming up again unless i put .ning.com. Help needed here....
