How should On-site Notifications Work?

If Ning added on-site notifications, how to you imagine it being implemented and working? What are your thoughts?

I think this would be an awesome use for that currently useless Ning bar at the top of our sites.  Comments, inbox messages, likes, etc. ---those counts would show on your Ning Bar, and change in REAL TIME, not on refresh.  (But maybe that's asking for the moon, Idk...LOL)

That's a really great idea! All of those in the ning bar would even make more free space in the right hand green sidebar!

I think it would be neat for notifications to be in the ning bar and a small rectangle in the left hand corner of the screen to pop up temporarily as a notifier.

A lot of people have been asking and i sure hope it ends up on the roadmap. It would be such a nice xmas present for nc's lol.

Well they just added more to the latest activity, i would expect notifications in 2012 roadmap

Possibly, bring it up to the Ning tech if you want it sooner. A lot of us want the feature.

This would be great, but until we get it, I'm thinking about creating something like myspace's Tom. I was thinking of using it as an admin account and because there is no longer a cap on the amount of friends a creator or admin can have, I'd friend every new member so I can send notifications to their inboxes...but hey that may not work...now that I think of it, we cant blind copy right?

But I think being able to send on-site notifications is a must...I'm a member of a hand full of ning networks and to be honest I dont read the emails (but I love the creators weekly digest!). However, I do read messages in my indox. And I don't read them, I always click on them for a quick view.

Wow that's dedicated. I'm pretty sure notifications will be introduced to the roadmap for 2012

I'm pretty sure I speak for a lot of NC's when I say that on-site notifications would be one of the best additions to our networks.
