A lof of people ask us about the "slider" on Creators at the top of our Main Page. They love it. We do, too!
A slider (sometimes also called a "carousel"or "hero" box) automatically rotates in and out promotional content. It's a very effective way to spotlight specific things on your network that you want returning members (and visitors) to notice and visit. You could also use a slider like this to run your own ads, particularly if you have lined up sponsors or advertisers directly and can create an ad for them. It looks like this:
I know that a number of Network Creators are going to flip over this new slider we've created. It's free for the taking, so check out this article on Adding a Slider to see if it's something you'd like to put on your network.
You will need to be able to upload the images you want to display, and you can do that with the File Manager (among other ways). You will also need to be able to look at some HTML, but these instructions are straightforward and should be doable for most Network Creators. If you're unsure about how to do it, you might want to try it out first on your test network and then paste the final code into a Text Box on your live network.
Enjoy!

I've been working on this slider for the past few days.
I have what is probably a 'dumb' question, but our site is only 3+ months old, and I'm a rookie learning my way through.
I have a 5 slide slider working on our test network, except all of the slides are cut short (width is correct at 653, but they are all cut off about 2/3 down, and I think that's why none of the text (headline nor subtext) is showing.
I may figure this out myself in the morning, but thought I'd post a note here in case someone sees this and is willing and able to offer an easy solution?
If I don't figure it out, or don't receive an answer here, I'll post on JenSocial (I've a VIP membership there; Jen is awesome and has always responded promptly to my queries).
The more I search and explore Ning help, Creators' Ning, JenSocial, and other Ning sites, the more my site improves, the more fun I have, the more I learn!
Thank you all,
Holly

Hi Holly,
Your height attribute is in the following bit of code that you put in your advanced css box
Click "Advanced" and paste the following CSS snippet:
/*Slider */ #profile_slider { height:310px; overflow:hidden; margin-left: -5px; margin-top: -5px; background:#000; }
All your images need to be sized to fit it and of course you can change it to match your image size (one size to fit all). That means you're going to have to go back and re-size your images since their heights all differ.
I think this will fix your problem.

Two of us had been looking for that sneaky little 310 number since yesterday. Now that you point it out it's so obvious. Sigh.
But it's fixed, a quick fix. I thank you very much!
One more question... can we lighten the gray filter bar that the text is on?
It hides the slides a bit more than I wish...
Thanks SO much,
Holly

One quick question though :)

Permalink Reply by Okuns uwa on June 24, 2012 at 6:42am Hello @Eric! Thanks for the help and for the link! It's given my site a completely different look- although am still working on it though! Could you guide me through what i need to do to increase the number of slides while using the css posted by Answer Ejiasi. I am a bit new with this and am finding it difficult making ammendments. Would have used the one referred to in the discussion below by @James Hawkins, but the css am using and that he referred to are different(form, width and height). Thanks for your help in advance- Eric and any other person who can help. Really appreciate!
