How to encourage member engagement with the tools we have now ?

Any ideas ? I currently just made my site and i got 12 members and they tell me they have friends who visist my site and first thing they say is wow it looks nice now what does it do ..

My friends point out oh you can upload vids pics and upload a status..next thing they say cool its like a fb for video game heads...the user then tells their friend well no because we really cant comment or talk about it to much due to its not a feature yet...

so i am asking what was do we really have to make the site more then a list of peoples thoughts and forum post ?? not just us telling news but having our members do the telling and arguing and debating and converse ??

i have recently given it some thought on how my mmo site can work and actually  think about the community and how its always being braodcast to login to this site to get more items and people get hacked imma try and make the site a little different and offer a new look for all gamers which will require a little more work and up keep but i think might be a little easier to add content instead of focusing on one game and not the market.

If im complaining sory but to me it was a way to express a desire for a feature i think would make your service better  actually love ning ..it has given me an understandign of what im in college for and how hard it actually is to do. I think ill be redoing my game plan a tad

Troy, the time you spent on this thread is more than enough to engage your members.Channel your energy to your network and you will see positive results.

i type fast cleopatra...im typing on here and writing blogs for my site and researching content to talk about lol mid terms make college kids frustrated

Cleopatra,

No words could be more perfectly spoken - - excellent advice.

Best,

Jen

lol marshall i could careless if someone is mad about what i got to say. If i let my self be affected by what people think about me i would be no where in life...its not that serious if Jen is mad so be it life goes on

hey mduece

thanks man for the insight bro but i havent given out the site yet because during these thirty days i will be working on content for my site doing information research on certain games and making certain to be viewed during the launch and trying to get my sites layout how i want it. I have the 12 members on there to test things out and see if what i am doing will be fun with the abilities i do have to give the user the information i can.

so i am doing reearch of what some gaming communties want from certain websites. Like new games and such features and resource and clan/guild activities. Im trying to rebuild my website to be usable by all gamers now.  and setting things up to be featured in my city nd learn a few add on scripts i found

hmm well i thought i did alot of complaining, lol ,troy  my best advice is to give it some time,if you search this forum you`ll see that everything your asking for has been asked for a millions times,i know i asked for the very same features, but i never hijacked a forum about the same topic or around the same topic, there are creators here who have been with ning for almost like day 1,and their are some creator on here with ovr 20 yrs experince in some type of css,or jquery .were all creators and ning does here us,but what can they do,stuff doesnt just happen over night, their are alot of tips on here creators, jensocial, jquery, that you can apply to your network to keep members engaged you can also run contest on your network i do this from time to time and its fun,and i also hae meetups 1 night of the week, butif other moderator want to have meetups during the weekthey can.

sometimes you just have to think out of the box.

Eric gave you the best advice.  You can't sit back on your heels and wait for members to come to you.  YOU have to be the one to get the ball rolling.

I can't add anything much to what Eric said, except to say that if you do all of those things, your members will arrive and stay.  I'm running my first contest, I've posted some "controversial" blogs to get discussions going (one had over 111 comments, which was amazing for my site!), our authors continually post new stories for our reader members to read and comment on.  My members are the focus of my main page...ALWAYS.  I acknowledge each and every birthday with a personal message.  ONe member just told me this morning how special that made her feel.  Evidently her Real Life birthday sucked big time, and when she logged on and saw my greeting to her, it absolutely made her day!  Which in turn, made MY day.

YOU have to take the initiative and make your site interesting.  I agree with everyone else.  The time you spend on here voicing your complaints could be better spent spiffying up your network.

lol jp

yea your right im now where in life. anf for you to base that  on forum post is really something. im just a 19 year old guy who lives on his own and apartment and car are in his own name and in college, working on my computer programming and aviatione engineering degree.

And if i have stomped the life out of the community by posting in the forums what i dont like nd making suggestions well that shows you what life remained here. Stop talking out your ass and trying to bash someone after your just said you were crying bout the damn file manager and ill find your post not only a day ago about you commenting and agreeing with my post on the status updater. Stop trying to make a name for your self kid and as far as the respect thing goes once again i can care less about what you or anyone else who dislikes me its a damn website of people that have 0 involvement in my life...

could honetly care less about what jp has to say your just a idiot trying to sound cool on a website bashing someone good job lol

you dont even know  me kid.

@Troy

lol oh yea very professional

Can't we all get along?
