How to get free, high-quality original content for your site.

I've just stumbled across a great resource, and (sweet as I am), thought I'd share.

The website is called MyBlogGuest. It's a hub for the exchange of guest blog posts. The quid pro quo is this: the writer gets exposure and a backlink to his/her site or product, and the publisher gets free content. Brilliant idea, and there are only three websites like it -- MyBlogGuest is the best of the three, as far as I can determine.

So here's how it works. You sign up (it's free), and post a request for guest bloggers in the forum. Describe your website, Alexa rank, Google pagerank, and what types of articles you're looking for. Bloggers interested in contributing a guest blog post to your site can respond to the post or PM you.

You can also peruse the MyBlogGuest articles database -- it's a collection of original articles that guest bloggers have written and uploaded for posting on other other websites. You can see a description of each article (sorted by subject), and the first paragraph. If you like what you see, you can submit a request for the article. The author will review your site details (and the details of any other sites that have requested the article) and choose which site to publish it on.

I signed up the day before yesterday and have already secured two well-written, relevant guest articles. One has gotten over 1,000 hits since it was posted yesterday, and (this morning, anyway) had the #1 spot on Google for the search term "reasons to buy Windows 8." In addition to obtaining articles through the site, you can also write your own and submit them to other websites to gain exposure for your website and (at a minimum) a quality backlink.

I can't get my site to verify, so I can't post in the forum. I've tried copy and pasting this...

into my custom code box, even tried wrapping the code in <head> </head> tags.

How did you verify your site?

Hmmm. I did verify my site, but through the email address that I have at the domain name. I'm not sure what to tell you. :(

Ok, so I'm curious, how did you get the email address? Do I have the option to have a @addictapic.com email address?? How do I do that?

I created an email address for my domain through the hosting company I use (I purchased the domain name for my network from them, and also have a hosting plan through them for other sites I run). Hmm. I'm not sure how you might go about it, though. A google search returns this: http://www.1stwebdesigner.com/design/how-to-create-free-e-mail-acco... -- which may be of help?

Kristy - thanks for this. Its late and i will give the site a closer look tomorrow, but it sounds like a good idea!

I have a very blog-centered community made up of mostly writers, so original content is not a problem, but more variety of content cannot be a bad thing!

I'd have to politely agree with Soaring here. Google would probably either ignore sites like this for SEO purposes or possibly even penalise sites that were linked from it - they are not so keen on unnatural links these days :-)

When you say "ignore sites like this," are you talking about the site linked in the author bio of a guest blog post, or the guest blogging network itself? Because the blogging network itself doesn't host links, that's not its function --- it's simply a place for guest bloggers and publishers to meet.

Guest posts are able to be vetted completely before posting, and declined at any time. As long as the post is relevant to the link, and the site is relevant to the post, it's far from unnatural.

Guest blogging is actually a well-established link building and audience-growing strategy. A couple of recent articles on the subject:

Hi Kristy, Yes, guest blogging can be very useful and quality inbound links are great. It's not just the relevance of the post to the link but the relevance of the overall site to the link. So if Google sees a site that has a diverse range of 'dofollow' links, some of which are from badly written articles, and many of them unconnected in topic, then your links can get lumped in with all the other rubbish. I'm just saying that some sites don't have a good reputation with google and if you have links from them and they are assumed (rightly or wrongly) to be 'paid' (for example) then it can affect your pagerank, if you care about that kind of thing.
