Ok... a while back the admins of this ning site tried adding a custom google search. I'm now there, trying to add a new one (and having problems, see here), but I also need to remove the old one they tried adding. Now... I have no idea how they even got it where it is! It's at the very bottom of the home page. Have a look (scroll all the way down) and let me know if you can figure out how they added it and how I can remove it.
Thanks a lot.
Jon

Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on June 21, 2012 at 4:11pm Turns out a while back when the site creator tried to go a custom google search, they put the code into "Custom Code" instead of a textbox, so I'm just getting them to delete it from there. When trying to add code for the new custom google search into the textbox I've created, the old one in "custom code" seems to be interfering/overriding it's settings. Waiting for them to remove the old code, then will try adding the new one to the textbox to see if this fixes the problem.
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on June 21, 2012 at 4:16pm Well, this could be tricky, Jon. You need to be signed in as the Network Creator to access the custom code, so they may not be able to actually remove any custom code for you. Do you have access to the NC of the site?
Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on June 21, 2012 at 4:45pm Ya, I just emailed her with instructions on how to delete the old code. Here's hoping it works out! I don't think this site has really had anyone knowledgeable about Ning and HTML/CSS, so my scant knowledge is all there is now that I have admin access. I can already see a few things that need to be cleaned up.
Really appreciate how helpful you and this site are!
Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on June 22, 2012 at 10:03am Ok, so I got the Network Creator to delete the old code from "custom code". I tried adding my new custom google search, but the settings are still being overridden. When I view the site's HTML I still see code from the old custom search (all it's style settings are still there... somewhere, and seem to actually be there twice). I've asked her to copy the entire contents of the "custom code" and send it to me, just to verify that she did delete it all. But is there any other location you can think of that this code might be? How do I get rid of it?
When I look at the site HTML I see code related to google custom search all the way from lines 1822-2157. view-source:http://www.30bananasaday.com/
So, this is what I'm trying to add:
And this is what I get (with styles being overridden):
Any help would be hugely appreciated!
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on June 22, 2012 at 11:59am I wish I could help, but I can't delete custom code that has been added by a Network Creator without their permission. Is the NC absent completely?
Permalink Reply by Jon Fergus on June 22, 2012 at 12:10pm No, the NC is around. She just doesn't know anything about HTML or CSS or such. Really wish I could get access to the code - this is like trying to swing a bat with one arm. :(
Is "custom code" the only place where HTML could've been added by the NC (or anyone else), or is there somewhere else I might need to look?
