Sorry I couldn't think of a more creative title, but I'm on borrowed (internet) time.
The New York tri-state area was devastated by Hurricane Sandy last night. This hurricane cut a swath of destruction from the Caribbean (67 deaths) on up to northeast corridor of the United States. There have been many lives lost, many more injured, and countless homes laid to ruin. My thoughts go out to those who may have lost family, friends and property due to this storm. Though my grandmother and I are doing quite well, I have family and friends who I have not heard from as yet.
For those who are unaware of the situation here: 20 are dead, about 100 homes burned down, 7 million without power. The worlds largest transportation system has been effectively shut down, and won't return to full service until next week, if that. It's not the most devastating event ever, but New York has never experienced this level of destruction.
I would appreciate it if anyone having experienced worse not stoop to bragging about how your state is used to this kind of devastation. This is not a contest.
There's a good chance I won't be able to respond to this post any time soon, as my internet service has been cut off. I'm using my cell phone as a hot spot, but it uses up battery life.
My best to you all.

You're in our thoughts...

Patrick,
So happy to hear you and your grandmother are okay. I meant to write last night. My nephew is in Astoria, and fortunately he's okay too. I can't reach 2 friends in NYC, but thinking they're just without power and can't charge their phones. I've followed the storm closely, and the devastation is horrific. They even closed NYSE for 2 days, the first time since 1888.
My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in your area.
Jen
