Is my site on the verge of exploding???

Well, maybe I'm exaggerating, but at least I got your attention.

Supposedly, we're only allowed a maximum of 15 subtabs underneath each main tab, and 50 total. I think I read that somewhere on here. 

I now have 53 subtabs, but they all still work fine! 

Will something dire happen if you go way over that 50 limit??  Should I delete some subtabs? Because I really need to add more!

The 15 subtab limit for every top-level tab is the only one I'm aware of. Subtab to your heart's content, you sensationalist! ;-)
