No matter how many times I shut off the chat beep, once I've returned to the site, it is automatically returned to enabled and full blast volume.
Is there a way to permanently disable it on an individual basis? I don't want to disable it for members, but it is extremely annoying to have to manually turn down the volume every single day, or to suddenly find that your computer is making an insane amount of noise at the most unexpected and inappropriate times due to a burst of conversation.
Any ideas or information would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Troy

Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 22, 2012 at 12:26pm Thank you, George, for taking time to try to help, but unfortunately, it's not a workaround. Removing the sound or lowering its audibility altogether isn't a workaround. I don't want to silence it for everyone, or to remove the option.
Surely there is a way to silence it on an individual basis without having to do it every single time we return. If it defaults to full-blast beeping, it can surely default to silent?
But thank you, George. That's a great idea for networks who want to remove that chat function, but I don't want to remove alerts.

Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 22, 2012 at 7:41pm For my scheduled chats, I use Mibbit, but members like the persistent Ning chat bar for quick communication with those who are currently online. The Ning chat room is useless for anything other than quick messages among members, so I don't have high expectations of it, but I'm surprised we are stuck with all-or-nothing when it comes to the sound returning to full-blast.

Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 23, 2012 at 7:26am Oh, I logged in and see that I've already experimented with this. I'll try it again, though, because I can't remember why it isn't a solution for me.
Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 23, 2012 at 7:30am Where does this get installed? I tried to create a text box for testing it, and it just loads as a big blank space. Can this be installed as a "persistent" chat, such as the Ning chat in the bottom of every page?
Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 23, 2012 at 7:36am Well, shoot. Their site is messed up and no chat rooms can be created, so I guess the beta program has come to an end, or someone forgot about it.
