Many of our most active users are frustrated with nested discussions, but nesting makes discussions much easier for more casual members and visitors to follow, especially long-term.
How hard would it be to allow each member to choose whether discussions are displayed nested or chronological?
If I were to test chronological discussions on our site, would replies from before I changed over have a quote of what they're replying to?
If there was a convenient place in the discussion to put an RSS feed of latest replies, that might at least help short term.
Thanks,
Steve

Hi Steve,
What's the source of their frustration?
If you move from threaded to flat discussions, there's no auto-quoting, no. That's a feature of new replies created with the flat style.
Thanks,
Phil

Thanks for the quick reply. They're frustrated because they have to go to their emails or activity feed to make sure they don't miss any messages. It can be cumbersome, especially since some of our discussions go on for weeks or months.
Our most active users have used sites based on vBulletin for years, so they're used to chronological order with quoting.
Thanks,
Steve
