Hey, Kristian. There's not really a way to automatically create accounts in the system in this manner. We require new members to opt in (rather than opt out). Also, all passwords are encrypted, so those aren't shared publicly with anyone. (Even we as employees of Ning are not able to view passwords.)
Thanks Eric, that is not so good, but I do understand it from your side
We have a similar goal and it's about more members with better data, not avoiding the opt-in.
It would be helpful if we could add members with info that we already have (ie: a database of 50 staff members with 15 fields of info for each staff member). They could each then receive the email invite and if they accept, they would be listed with their info, without the need to answer 15 questions about themselves.
Hi did anyone find an answer/workaround for this?
I would also like to add members manually. We have a paid-only alumni network, but want to be able to add members who pay offline.
Hey, Dan. There's not really a way to add someone manually because they need to set a password and opt in to the service. You'll probably have to use email invitations.
Eric, thanks for the reply. This is really problematic for us when we have members of our paid community who previously paid offline. Donation paywall is not workable for us for policy and back-end logistics reasons.
(Also, there is a UX problem with the donate implementation... when I set a low and high range, the system automatically presents user with a large number of choices between low and high making; I set low=0 high=50, and system gives user dropdrown with $5 increments between 0 and 50).
Can you--or another Creator in the community--offer any other workarounds of some kind?
I'm sorry but our system doesn't allow for the importing of members. It's something we've thought about building, but we haven't tackled it yet.
I don't think there's a way to configure the suggested donation amounts in really custom ways. You could, for example, choose a range that is smaller, like so:
But it sounds like you don't want a range at all. Did you want there to be only two options?
Yes, ideally if this were the route I'd love to have 2 options: $50 and $0. Is that possible?
Thanks again for the speedy reply!
Those fields aren't changeable, I'm afraid to say. I believe the system always wants to encourage as many multiple donation options as possible.
$0 and $50 is quite a wide amount. Do you think people would donate $50 if given the choice of zero dollars? I mean, I guess my instinct would be to make them closer together. What about just using a suggested donation of $50 but not setting a range. That is effectively the same thing, isn't it? They will either donate $50 or nothing.
Yes, depending on the wording for the user, a single amount could be a workable solution. Thanks again, Eric!
