I posted this on another discussion, but I wanted to mention it here as well, just so you guys have context on this issue:
"Something we're constantly struggling with is how to balance Network Creator customization with a simple product. We don't want to overwhelm the product by putting controls over every aspect of any change or new feature. If we'd done that in all cases, we'd have dozens of management pages with dozens of checkboxes and radio boxes. However, we also want Network Creators to be able to be able to have a flexible Ning Network that looks, feels and runs the way they want it to, and we've added Network Creator controls over much of the platform.
This definitely might be one of those places where we need to provide NC control, but I hope this gives you a better idea of why we don't always default to doing so."
Great topic overall here. I see your point, but now that you mention it, I'm not sure the current "feature controls" page IS actually better than having a dedicated page of controls for each feature. Its always seemed like a catch-all for stuff you cant think of anywhere else to put.
At the very least put "feature controls" next to "features" on the manage page. Its current location under "your members" makes no sense at all.
It sounds like a lot of people would like the location information to remain. If that's the case, how important is it to keep the country listed on the Members and Friends pages? In most cases, would just the city/state be enough?
