Hi Guys n Gals,

 As most of us are aware, if we have custom domains for our networks, there have been some issues with mobile photo uploading. The only way the uploads work is if you use the custom code I'm attaching below, and change the email the photo goes to from memberuniquename@yourdomain.com BACK to memberuniquename@yourningname.ning.com.

 The problem is, if we have not purchased email service from our registrars for every current and future member, these custom url email addresses WILL NOT WORK. I am wondering if maybe Ning (or one of our code hack geniuses) could do a workaround to make it work. 

 I am wondering if, instead of the "unique" part as the name, if the unique part came after the @ would it work around having to buy them?

 

for example, the way it works correctly now is membernam987@yournetwork.ning.com

 

what the network TRIES UNSUCCESSFULLY to do with networks using custom domains is membernam987@yourcustomdomain.com

 

I am wondering if doing something like THIS will work

myphotos@membernam987.yourcustomdomain.com

I don't know if it would or could work, I'm just trying to think of a way this can be done without having to buy email addresses from the registrar. Since Ning is going more towards allowing us to individualize our sites, and get away from Ning branding, this could go a LONG WAY!

 

(for those of you who need the attached code, just click the attachment below, highlight-copy-paste into a notepad file, and make sure you change all instances of "yoursite" to the correct names, and paste it in your custom code box in your dashboard. YOU DO NOT NEED THIS UNLESS YOU HAVE A CUSTOM DOMAIN. IF YOU HAVE YOUR ORIGINAL NING URL AND NOTHING ELSE YOU ARE OK.)

Thanks for this! We understand the issues and have some plans for making this more configurable for NCs while helping route around the domain mapping issues that can arise.

 No problem. Does something similar to what i suggested sound like it could work?

It might work, but would still require a lot of setup with your custom domain in order to filter the emails correctly and forward them to Ning. The solution we're working on aims to be hassle-free for NCs.

thats great Phil! The way I'm stating this is intended to be worked without us having to do anything. It's so easy to not notice it is not working with custom domains right now, I wouldn't know it didn't work until I came out here a couple months ago and someone pointed it out....I hope you guys get it worked out soon, keep us posted!
