Hello Creators, is a monthly photo archive possible in any way?
There are over 5000 photos within my network, and a few of my members are worried about photos being "buried" in just a few days.
It is true that a lot of times, interest is lost after a while of going through the gallery. A way to go back to a certain month, and view the photos that were uploaded at that time, would be amazing.
Is this at all possible? Can you please help me to achieve this member request?
Thank you Creators! Take care!
Sincerely,
Damien

It needs to be able to back date, so I can provide links in a list of dates.
Ning API must contain "date uploaded" information on photos, no?
How would I reference/call to that?
Permalink Reply by Damien Hannah on January 16, 2013 at 1:17am I'm not a pro web developer, and to be honest, anywhere in this Ning Documentation, I'm completely confused.
But I do have some intelligence in this noggin of mine! :)
As you can see in this photo, the upload date apparently can be referenced as read only... perfect..
Now what? Lol. Times like these remind me of just how much of a rookie I really am.

Permalink Reply by TJ @ jQueryHelp on January 16, 2013 at 8:58pm My thoughts... :-)
The tagging idea is a good one. The problem is that many will not tag their photos properly. A solution would be a program that the NC could trigger at will which would go back over recently added photos and automatically add two tags with the month and year the photo was uploaded onto the site. I did something similar once for a client who needed all their blog's tags updated.
Once you have the photos properly tagged, then you can create a series of links or items in a drop down box which will display the photos from the selected month. Actually, the app could generate these links or list items automatically as well, adding each new month as it arrives.
Contact me if this sounds interesting and we can see if my fee is in your budget.
Thanks!

You can crab the rss feed & paste it into module using "fetch feed". From this point on there is a list of ways you can filter what you want then crab the code it gives you & paste it back onto your site.
I'm just learning this myself so I can't give you specifics but there are many video tutorials you can watch.
Permalink Reply by Damien Hannah on January 17, 2013 at 10:42am Great idea Scott, thank you. however the problem there lies in, there are no RSS feeds for albums, or featured albums. Which means Jquery and javascript are likely the only solution. I may have found a solution, awaiting a message.
Permalink Reply by Scott Bishop on January 17, 2013 at 10:50am You can turn any page into rss feeds using: http://open.dapper.net
It's fairly simple to figure out as it walks you thru it. (however it only works with your ff browser)
So use your search term from your /photos page, search & grab the url code from your searched page and paste it to open.dapper.net
Oh, and I'd like to hear what you came up with.
Permalink Reply by Scott Bishop on January 17, 2013 at 7:58pm Hey Damien, There's a site called Cooliris that works awesome with vids & pics. It's the coolest way to show of your pics. But for some reason Ning has restrictions on our photos vids but they are working on it. You can view the thread here.
If Ning can help out with this, this will be an incredible feature for our photos!!!
Permalink Reply by Allison Leahy on February 1, 2013 at 1:16am Good news: Ning has lifted the restriction. If you grant Cooliris permission, the service will now be able to access your photos and morph them into 3D displays and slideshows.
