Good day all,

I want to clean up my stylesheet on my site without removing anything vital. Does anyone have any tips on how I can check the function of the codes in my stylesheet so that I dont remove anything pertinent? Thanks for the tips folks, make it a great day!

Also, I can provide my stylesheet to anyone who has particular knowledge of this.

i think but not sure.take your mouse to file you want to view, right click, view file source link should appear, click on that, see your files in the style sheet.also try using firebug..hope this is what your talking about..

Hi Solo,

Thanks for the reply, what I am trying to do is figure out what the codes in my stylesheet are for, not all of the code in fact none of the code in my stylesheet is organized in the sense that its labeled so you know what you're removing. So I want to clean up the styleheet as it looks like it has duplicates of the same code in certain places but I dont want to remove anything vital from my network. Do you understand better now? Your tip was good in the sense that I am able to view the source of the code.

copy and paste to text file..open tes tnetwork,,and good luck..apply 1 code at a time to see it functions.

You can add your whole stylesheet virtually through Firefox's style editor.

lol i was just typing that G

LOL ok guys, you two are so much more experienced coders than I am (but I start classes this winter for computer science! im looking at Berkley College in New Jersey so wish me luck!) but what does it mean to "add your stylesheet virtually"??? What will this do george? And you're an admin on well kunnected George so unless you simply dont have the time I'd appreciate your help, besides...you created the stylesheets after all! LOL thanks in advance guys and george please get back to me, i've been trying to hold a steady convo with you for over a week now! ;-)

If your advanced CSS is bursting at the seems then put some of your less visible CSS in an external stylesheet. For example, if you have a lot of CSS that styles the footer or your messaging areas, I.e not seen immediately, then host that externally. I say this because Ning loads externally hosted style sheets after the rest of the site (using custom code) and can result in unsightly lags in style applications. I did see a tip earlier this week advocating putting all your CSS in an external file, which, frankly, is not a good idea.
