I have noticed that when some one joins the Network then there is a msg saying

.............. is now a member of Kanchenjunga Social Network

Welcome Them!

 

Why Them? Its just one person, you are welcoming. 

 

Another is when someone updates his/her Profile, it says ....................... updated their profile

Again here in the plural and its just one person updating his/her profile. 

 

My Suggestion if acceptable:

 

Welcome to Kanchenjunga Social Network NAME OF THE PERSON.

(after all its just the new members we welcome, so need to mention he/she is a new member)

  

Profile updated today (or date) by NAME OF THE PERSON

Hey, thanks for this suggestion! I can't promise we'll do it, but I'll pass it along. My hunch is that this language is intentionally short to take into account someone who might have a really long name, but I could very well be wrong about that.

You can this through language Editor like I have been changed the "Welcome Them!" with "Lets Welcome Our New Member!" So we can change like something through language Editor..

"them" can refer to one person when the sex of the person isn't known where "him" or "her" would be operative...example: "If anyone touches my plate, I will be upset with them."

you MAY be able to reference it back to the person's name via the language editor, search for the word string, and replace "them" with %1$s and see if that works. in my opinion, repeating the name again so quickly sounds even more canned than "welcome them" , it's too redundant. JMHO.

David is correct, it is an attempt to avoid "him or her" which is now generally accepted in English. However, I do like your alternatives.
