Permalink Reply by Writer Chick {Diane} on May 26, 2012 at 5:45pm Well, Facebook forces the issue. You have to say why you're deactivating your account. There's no legal issue with insisting on this apparently, or else FB wouldn't be doing it.

Permalink Reply by Tyler Durbin on May 27, 2012 at 1:09am Ning = $25-$60/mo
Facebook= Over $5 million in startup capital
For that kinda difference, Ning does a dang good job.

unbelievable
Permalink Reply by Debby de Wilde on May 28, 2012 at 12:34pm Why is it that you do not want people to leave? I'd rather have them leave and not give me a reason for it than keeeping an inactive account.
Hats off to people who take the time to leave. Just my two cents.

Try it. Let us know how it goes.
Permalink Reply by Donna Mac on May 29, 2012 at 5:08am Facebook is owned by the CIA? Huh? What? so I used to belong to five NING networks....left them all and didn't tell the NC's why. It's not their business...maybe I was diagnosed with a terminal illness...maybe I moved....maybe I divorced...maybe it was a pet site and my precious pet died....maybe the site was so terrible that the NC didn't deserve any explanation at all. to force someone to say why is totally ridiculous. If I leave FB, since it is owned by the CIA, I think I will explain that I am a heavy scammer and the scams aren't working anymore. I just think you need to focus on more positive things in your network.
Permalink Reply by Debby de Wilde on May 29, 2012 at 6:12am I can see why you would like people to state why they leave. Something to think about: Focus on what your members want and what they want to see changed. They are the people you are having your network for.
Taking all the 'leave' options off will not result in people staying, it will result in people leave without deleting their account.
Permalink Reply by Charlie on May 31, 2012 at 7:05am Debby, I think that is the intention though. Help Seeker doesn't want members to remove their profiles so she looks like she has a lot more members on her network than she actually does.
Help Seeker, if you try and control and bully your members they will leave en mass and you will be left with no interaction or movement on your site. You are better off letting people go on good terms than forcing them to keep a profile on your network if they don't want it. Looking like you have lots of members simply because members cannot remove their profile pages and accounts wont help you in the long term. Sooner or later you will get a bad rep for that, and that will come back and bite you on the behind when you least expect it.
I'm just trying to offer you some help, what you do with it is up to you.
