Our on-call team is investigating this right now. We think this may be due to a recent release. We'll keep you posted in this discussion as we learn more. Thanks for reporting this!

Embedding video is exactly why I came to Ning from Wordpress. They may have issues with security/malitious code, but they need to get over it.
If I can't embed video, I have to go to another blog.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on November 24, 2010 at 8:22am While certainly inconvenient, what is happening here today is not the norm, Tuxedo. I'm sure Ning is working on a speedy resolution.
Permalink Reply by Aaron on November 24, 2010 at 8:29am Hi all, we're continuing our investigation. Right now, it looks like <embed> tags are getting stripped from codes, leaving just <object> tags. This means embed codes won't work in any browser except (possibly) Internet Explorer. Our on-call team is isolating the code that broke this feature and we will continue to update you on the Status Blog and in this discussion.
Edit: Embeds are broken even in IE.
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by Shannon on November 24, 2010 at 8:37am What about the issues with editing and saving forum replies? Is this a related problem? Or a separate issue?
If it's separate then I'll be happy to report it to the appropriate persons.
EDIT: I submitted another support ticket and this time DID get a confirmation email.
Permalink Reply by Aaron on November 24, 2010 at 8:39am Hey Shannon,
This sounds like a separate issue. Do you mind opening a new discussion here on Creators so we can focus on the video issue here and the forum comments there?
Thanks!

Permalink Reply by John on November 24, 2010 at 8:52am Hi Aaron,
A practices question for you. Rather than hunt for the bug wouldn't it be a better practice to initiate a rollback on yesterdays code roll out? Assuming it is a code rollout and not a data issue.
It doesn't appear that QA engineers were involved in whatever change occurred. Another practices opportunity I imagine.
Keep your chin up. Software projects can be infinitely difficult. Thanks for all the heroic efforts.
Permalink Reply by Aaron on November 24, 2010 at 8:58am Great question. Sometimes, we do perform rollbacks of code changes, but in other cases we opt to roll forward with patches since often various code changes and bug fixes are involved. In this case, we are rolling back.

Permalink Reply by John on November 24, 2010 at 9:02am Excellent. Thanks for the peek behind the curtain.
Permalink Reply by Aaron on November 24, 2010 at 8:48am We've isolated the code that is causing the issue with embeds. We're planning to deploy a patch to fix this very soon. I'll keep you posted here and in the Status Blog.

Permalink Reply by Chaive on November 24, 2010 at 8:54am Any idea on how long this will take, Aaron? Yes, you have to deal with NC's, but we also have to deal with our members. Just need to know what to tell them and give them some idea of how long this issue is going to take to fix.
Permalink Reply by Aaron on November 24, 2010 at 8:56am My sense is that we'll have video embeds working again in the next hour. If that changes, I'll post here and to the Status blog.
