My achievement here is somewhat ongoing. I'm proud that the network launched, that we've had awesome and varied participation and have seen growth.
It's sometimes tough to keep up, but also gratifying to know that every member here has a Ning Network (or is in the process of creating one). It's fantastic to see the quality of discussion going on here and the variety of networks represented. :D
Thank you:) I searched for all of the various alumni sites for my school and used the following text to invite each person listed as the contact person:
Hello! I am a NWC class of 2002 graduate. I created a website for ALL classes and would love YOUR class to join! Visit http://nwchsalumni.ning.com to check it out! It has lots of great features:)
The next day, I got this email: Janettee, thanks for sending your website. I would love to talk to you sometime this coming week. Will you call me at (phone number removed for privacy)?
Thanks, TH (name removed for privacy)-Class of 1965
So I called her, and it turns out she's part of the local alumni association, Friends of Northwest Classen (well, one of them anyhow lol... although she told me they are now combining the two). She was happy that one of the "younger classes" was interested in alumni things, and was really excited to talk to me:)
She invited me to participate in several of their activities, and informed me of some of the things they are trying to do (including getting Vince Gill, an alumnus of ours, to come and perform at a fundraiser). She also asked me about perhaps helping her with their website, which I thought was pretty cool:) I think I better contact her again about that, as I see their site is down.
Ooh thanks for the idea:) I also tried to add an RSS feed but our (very large, as I live in Oklahoma City) newspaper only has a MAIN feed, and I only wanted LOCAL stories. I used to work for the paper and know quite a few people there, so maybe that will help me get in:)
I would have to say that the most rewarding thing about running our site is enriching people's lives with information or cool things to look at.
On a personal level, I love the constant challenge of driving traffic to our site, and always trying to increase our ad revenue.
I'm very happy with our growth trend this last year and a half, and my goal is to double our traffic this year. If we can do that, I feel like we'll be in a great position, especially for a private company that hasn't received any VC investment.
Yes, there are a few things we need to tweak, but I hope with Ning's help, we can get there. Thank you Ning!
