Every so often I Google about new social networks, just to see what's out there. I mostly find a lot of really crappy sites like So.cl, but every so often I find something new. Well, I found one that could be a serious competition for Ning networks - if the creator has lots of money and doesn't care if their site is ugly. They'd also lose HTML ability... But Ollco DOES have a lot of really great features that would be pretty awesome.

These Features Include:

  • Photo tagging
  • An enhanced events feature
  • Enhanced groups (includes all features of the network)
  • Ad options
  • Check-in
  • Different types of profiles
  • Awesome friend search options
  • Friend suggestions
  • Friend circles
  • Security features (hide posts from user, report post, block user)
  • The "Music" feature
  • Viewing "friend" content instead of only the entire network's content.
  • "Jobs" feature
  • Subcategories in forums
  • Being able to sell tickets via "Events"
  • "Time Zone" management - I LOVE that everyone sees everything in their own time zone!

A lot of these are features that most major social networks such as Google+, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter have... So why don't we? And even for the ones that they don't have... Wouldn't you want to have something ADDITIONAL to offer? :)

 Great ideas Janettee :-)

Thank you:)

I would like to see Photo tagging

Me too:) Especially if you could tag via email - that would be a GREAT way to get new members to join:)

I've seen Ollco before and actually spoken to them a couple of times. They are targeting enterprises/large companies instead of the individual users and the pricing on their site is not a typo and it's exactly where their prices start. Ollco's main competitor is Yammer (just bought by Microsoft) and Yammer charges companies per user instead of a flat fee (I think last time I checked it was $15 per user) but clients include huge corporations worldwide, like Deloitte, Vodafone, LG and some other big companies. I think Yammer has a slightly better product and is a bit more stable and reliable.

They are all players in the social network space, but have a different business models to NING's. For me personally, I'd go as far as saying even if I was a huge company with unlimited budget, I'd still probably go with NING as a social network for my company instead of those others.

That's insane. Even so - I wouldn't like to have their network because it can't be customized at all... It's truly ugly.

the features of taging is what i would like to see the most.

I would love it too, but not sure it's what I'd like the MOST... The different profile types and enhanced groups are what I'd really love to see:) Of course - there are a LOT of things I'd really love here!

Many of these features would be great. I agree, that the price had to be a typo. It is hard pill to swallow at times paying what we do here at Ning, after having it for free. On the other hand, if Ning continues to introduce these new features that members bring to the table and work to perfect them, I don't mind paying for the service as much. Thanks for sharing this Janetee

You're welcome! And boy I sure hope so - I really just can't get my head around this price!

I think friends suggestions would be my fav out of this list, but what I am really dying for is on-site notifications. :)

I would love on-site notifications too:)
