New Features I'd Like To See

Every so often I Google about new social networks, just to see what's out there. I mostly find a lot of really crappy sites like So.cl, but every so often I find something new. Well, I found one that could be a serious competition for Ning networks - if the creator has lots of money and doesn't care if their site is ugly. They'd also lose HTML ability... But Ollco DOES have a lot of really great features that would be pretty awesome.

These Features Include:

• Photo tagging
• An enhanced events feature
• Enhanced groups (includes all features of the network)
• Ad options
• Check-in
• Different types of profiles
  
• Awesome friend search options
• Friend suggestions
• Friend circles
• Security features (hide posts from user, report post, block user)
• The "Music" feature
• Viewing "friend" content instead of only the entire network's content.
• "Jobs" feature
• Subcategories in forums
• Being able to sell tickets via "Events"
• "Time Zone" management - I LOVE that everyone sees everything in their own time zone!

A lot of these are features that most major social networks such as Google+, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter have... So why don't we? And even for the ones that they don't have... Wouldn't you want to have something ADDITIONAL to offer? :)

My biggest wish is to be allowed to have more than just 1 page for videos. I have a Christian Fellowship network and I have the main videos page for Christian music and sermons, but I would like a separate videos page for children.

Just create a separate page and upload and embed the videos you want there. I did this with a previous Ning network. I used the standard Youtube page for a general subject, and made a new page with specific videos on another.

Yes Austin, I am aware of this and thank you, but it doesn't look the same, nor are there the same functions. To me it wouldn't, be that hard for Ning to give us that option.

Another thing I would like to see added and I have run into this in the past couple days. To be able to have the option to allow the administrators work with the custom code box. I have a member that is so great with CSS codes, I haven't a clue of how they work. To me, allowing the creators the option to appoint an administrator who they trust access to this box, only makes sense. Just a thought.

Some of these features is what attracted me to phpfox. But the costs of up keeping my own servers and growing it with the site became too time consuming and expensive. I hope that Ning at least implements the friend suggestions module, it's very important for friending and growing your members interaction with the site. Also PAGES for businesses, very important.

I have moved one of my NING sites to Social Engine.  It is great.  The core of social engine and it's add ons are decent enough, but it's the plugins from third parties that really make it addicting.  The big reasons I went to Social Engine is control over software, one time cost, Third Party Pages module which is ridiculously great (there are actually two companies that make Pages modules which is fantastic since the competition is heated.), own self hosted advertising module (just like facebook and google), and so much more.

Downside:  Plugins are not that expensive, but addicting.  There is always about a dozen or so new modules being created with pretty cool features.  Can get expensive, but you buy it once, it's yours with free updates from a year or until the next major verison of Social Engine.  Online Help is also scarce.  There are a couple forums out there, but not as good as NING.

Still playing around with it at www.millcost.com, haven't let the world really know about it yet, so no members.

The only thing I like here is photo tagging your friends. Thats it. If Ning could add that we would be perfect.
