I'm constantly annoyed by the Ning blog / forum layout for Admins. The extra "Admin Options" box that pushes the input area to the left and messes up the whole view. In fact the Admin on a Ning network has a problem adding content because we don't see our posts the same way the members / visitors do.
My suggestion for a better implementation is simple: just move them up to the top and place them horizontally like the navigational menu.
I've made a mock up below to illustrate my point. I have to sign out of my network to see my how my content looks like, I hope the silliness in this is obvious to everyone.
So I hope Ning can move this around.

There is a way around it. Create your blog, page, group, etc onto Dreamweaver and then copy/paste.

We are working on this right now. See Nick's post at http://creators.ning.com/forum/topics/coming-soon-a-clean-consistent
Look for it early next year.

Permalink Reply by Brian Floe on December 22, 2010 at 3:17pm well Patrick - that's why I'm taking the time to thank all of you for implementing the idea :). It's cause I am quite aware this has already been announced (as I wrote).
Still it's always nice to get a Ning comment in a thread - appreciate it! And I think you are doing the right thing here! In fact the more I think of it the better I like the idea of hiding these features in a drop down menu instead of my suggestion illustrated above. Great work guys! Thanks!
Permalink Reply by Brian Floe on March 13, 2011 at 7:23am I really hope you guys can see the logic behind having the "featurED" status indicator readily visible without having to go to the drop down menu for each photo.
I keep forgetting to feature photos now ....
