Hello there I am pretty new to Ning
I have never used Ning and I have been asked to help out on an existing website.
I would like to know if someone can help me out.
I have a video page that has an "add" button, so you can upload videos from your computer.
I would like to create another page that has the "add video" button, so I can upload a video from my computer, so far when I create a page, I don't have this facility
I can embed a video, but that is not what I am after.
Can anybody help me out
Thanks

When you say you have a video page with an add button, are you referring to your current Ning site or an existing site?

Someone has suggested that as well, but I do have the NIng Pro.
Yes I am talking about my current Ning site (see, I didn't create this site, someone else did and it was transfered to me, to do changes, but I have never used Ning before, I have used other CMS but not this one)
So the site is done and it has a page called Videos, where you can add videos from your computer via the "add" button.
But when I create another page , I dont get the "add" button and I am wondering if I have to select a template to go with that page?
Thanks
Permalink Reply by Robert Williams on November 11, 2011 at 2:10am I think I understand now. Are you looking to add an additional video page? In other words, do you want two embedding locations on your site?
If so, that is not quite how the system works... to my knowledge. Each feature is available in the form of a page. You can hide the page if you like, but it is always there. If you add the video feature, you have a page and a corresponding module on the home page. You can also allow your members to use the nifty share option on your activity module. Basically, there are several places you can add these videos, but not in the form of multiple pages.
I would be glad to look at your site and help out more if need be.

I think I understand, so if I have a page called Video, that page is the only one that can have the "add" button to upload from the computer?, if I create other pages, those page they will just look like a regular page and not like that Video page?
for example, this is the site
http://micro-tyco.com/
If you go to videos, you can see the video page, there is a submenu of that Video page, called Mentor videos, and that page is different than the Video page.
Mentor videos doesn't have the "add" button, in here you need to embed your videos and that is why it looks different than the Videos page.
So basically, I can not have 2 Video pages (in terms of layout and functionalities) can't I?
Thanks again
Permalink Reply by Robert Williams on November 11, 2011 at 4:50am Wow! Great site! One of the best I have seen using this platform. There are a lot of NC's, including myself that could benefit form some of your implementations. For instance, The sign in and join link in the header would be a popular discussion if you care to share. Great work!
To answer your question, you are correct in saying that adding a second video page is not possible. What you could do is feature certain videos. This would provide a division between videos. Looks like you are doing so in the header anyways...
Best of luck! Maybe somebody with more experience than me can help you further...

I wish I could help you, but like I mentioned before, I didn't develop the site, it was just past onto me to do changes and since I have never used Ning, I am not really sure what it is capable of
I am just learning about this platform, but if I come across the sign in and join in, I would let you know how its done.
Thanks for your answer about the videos
Cheers

Permalink Reply by Speed Racer on November 11, 2011 at 11:49am I'm not on Pro so I can't test this, but if you have Ning Pro, i think you could use this workaround.
Upload your video to "videos", I think there will be an embed code, grab it.
Create a page, and in the text box tools, click the blue "media" button and paste the code in it.
You can add <center></center> tags to the embed code to center the video..
You should then have the video on the different page you are making.
You should be able to add them in blogs, forum discussions, anywhere there is a text box this way.

Permalink Reply by Jose Romero on November 11, 2011 at 1:28am Hey Austin,
I do have a Ning Pro plan....so not sure why.
I have worked with other CMS but I have never used this one. The other CMS I have used work with templates and you create a page and assign a template to that page.
The website was transfered to me by someone who created it in Ning and it already has a page called Videos and in there you can upload videos with the "add" button, but I go to Settings and then Tabs and Pages and I create a page.
But I am not sure how to assign a template to that page.
It creates a page for me automatically and then I can only embed videos instead of uploading them.
any ideas
Cheers
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 11, 2011 at 11:21am Hey, Jose. Our system is a little different than a typical click-and-build website builder with page templates. All Videos live in a Video section on its own URL (/video). Videos also appear as a "module" on the Main Page. And, each video has its own URL under the /video area. Moreover, Pages (the feature) are basically empty containers for HTML. So, if you create a new Page, it won't include those types of details. You could, though, embed content if you can create it in HTML.
Probably doesn't answer the question in the way you had hoped, but I wanted to try and answer. I'll try to answer more if there's a way we can hopefully make this work for you.

Thanks for your reply, I understand how it works now, I guess I would just have to embed the videos

Permalink Reply by Jim Kinson on January 31, 2012 at 11:55pm Well, I for a couple weeks have been trying to figure out how I could set up a page to do the same thing with videos. I an the creator of a Christian fellowship network. I thought it would be a great idea to have a page designated for children. A page that I could bring children's videos from U tube or wherever, and the parents could let them watch it without the fear of what the child is going to see from TV adds etc...
Is this something that the Ning team might think about adding? Would there be enough interest within the other Ning creators to justify adding this option? If not, in the mean time can someone explain to me how I might be able to to do like mentioned in the above posts?
Thanks, Jim
