I've tried so many of the Apps provided by Ning, and always end up dismantling them, because none of them ever work properly, or as advertised, or they are dead or broken installations, or they do not integrate well with the site, or they are clunky, or they end up being backdoors for spam ads from third-parties, and there is absolutely no support for any of them that I've tried (just check out the plethora of complaints that go unnoticed in the app market's comments for each app).
Can anyone recommend or share which apps they might be using that do actually work, integrate well, and do something beneficial for your community?
It seems like such a waste of services being offered, so I would really like to try to use some of them that might work well.
Thanks!
Troy

Permalink Reply by Traddie on June 23, 2012 at 8:46am Are people having trouble with the Member Map App. Mine seems to work ok but having seen this discussion I am now concerned that there may be a future problem with the map. Is there a safe alternative that can be built into my site ?

Permalink Reply by Monica Diaz on June 28, 2012 at 10:31am Hi CocteauBoy,
We're actually working on cleaning up the Ning Apps directory so that it contains a helpful list of good working apps. In this vein, we'll also be following up with the app developers of some of the more popularly used apps, so that these can perhaps be fixed.
We'll also continue to remove apps that are no longer compatible with Ning Networks.

Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on June 28, 2012 at 5:31pm It will be even better if it's true. There is a thread here in the forum from long ago that said the same thing, but... crossing fingers.
Please do, I've wasted countless hours of my life wondering 'if it was me' that couldn't work the app, or was it just rubbish.
Permalink Reply by CocteauBoy on July 1, 2012 at 11:58am Same here... more like countless minutes, but still. Until these are removed or fixed, Ning should *not* be using them as selling points, that's for sure.
I spent ages on zoho invoice app thinking it would be better than it turned out. Each app should have some form of detailed description and some screen shots of how it works, otherwise the onus seems to be on us to explore what they can and can't do. From what I could work out with the zoho invoice it couldn't do very much.
Permalink Reply by Scott Bishop on June 29, 2012 at 3:08pm I once used the CafePress app & one of the rss feed apps and they worked well.
The bigger problem (even with the working ones) is that we can not control the page meta tags & url's like we can with created pages for SEO purposes.
As soon as Ning came out with this control on created pages, I deleted the apps, created pages to have meta tags & my own urls and iframed CafePress (see Surf Swag) & (Surfing News).
