I have been network creating for two years next month. My first network site which is really my primary project has done well over 100,000 page views in a month in over 173 different countries. 26,000 unique views in the United States alone and we now have about 2,600 registered members. A lot of this has to do with our subject and connections to primary sources in our movement, however, I have also been learning the ins and outs of network creation.
My visibility with the site has opened doors and few opportunities for me to create some other networks for people who are now in turn learning their selves. I like the idea of ‘teaching some one how to fish instead of giving them the fish.’ But I also like to earn for my work and time spent so that I can focus on the thing that I need to focus on.
I have been getting a lot of requests and an opportunity was presented to me to turn it into a full time company helping teach people how to develop social networks or ‘vertical communities’ with social media platforms and real world organizing. I am reaching out to Ning Creators because I would like to team up with the right people, as well as learn from people who are more knowledgeable than myself.
Would anyone have suggestions on where I should start? and/ or would have interest in collaborating or working collectively? I noticed there is a “Help Wanted” group here on NingCreators that states “looking for someone to create a network, the place to post. Looking for work, not the place.” Well what about people like myself who has work and needs help from ning creators, but also has something to offer and would like to share reciprocally in opportunities as they present themselves? Any ideas anybody?
Both Jen and TJ have businesses themselves that take up much of their time. This is a tricky one. You would have to find someone who had ample time to commit to such an alliance, and it obviously would have to be worth their while.
When I started on Ning several years back, I used to build communities for Ning nc's for free. But learning the ropes, maintaining four networks and being homeless simultaneously made it impossible to continue. Not sure of other nc's would have the time to participate in your ambitions.
I wish you good luck, Asher.
