Some of my high traffic pages, including a big upcoming event page, recently started showing that their URLs have a "-1" added to them, yet no duplicate page name has been created.

This is breaking inbound links pointing to these very important pages.

How can I fix the page names, and why is it happening?

For my blog posts that were given the -1 suffix (after I edited them) the -1 stayed attached after the fix, unless I edited them. Once I edited them after the fix, the old url came back.

I am so happy this bug has been fixed!
Me, too.
