We will be performing maintenance on the Ning Platform this coming Friday, December 2nd, from 10 p.m. to 12 a.m. (Midnight) Pacific Time. During this time, all Ning Networks will be unavailable.
We’re proud to have been able to realize a consistently high uptime over the past year. To keep this consistent record high, we need to perform some crucial upgrades to hardware, systems and databases. We want to ensure your Ning Network stays online and speedy for the next year and beyond.
What will happen?
Tell your members!
We recommend advising your members of this downtime in advance via a broadcast message and/or other notices on your Main Page. We’ve put together some boilerplate language you can use for messaging by simply copying and pasting. Or, tailor it for your members. We’ve included a few options here for you: one formal and one a bit more informal:
We know that maintenance like this can be an inconvenience, and we appreciate your patience while we perform it.

Can there be on this sort of announces, a more worldwide awareness being shown?
(not on the maintenance window itself, I understand that)
But Ning is not only based on US users, but also users from around the globe.
I myself are from Europe and have a hard time calculating US vs. EU (not to mention PST vs EST)
So why not give maintenance time in 3 timetables (US, EU, Asia) ?
As simple as..
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 29, 2011 at 2:14pm Good point. Interestingly enough, I actually tried to find some decent time converters online to link to for people who may have a difficult time finding out information like that by doing a Google search. Unfortunately, the ones I did find were pretty lame. Some of them didn't even work. This one may be a good one to try, though.
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 29, 2011 at 3:57pm Definitely bookmark that time converter. That's the only decent one I've ever found. And, it locates you by IP address, which is really awesome.
Permalink Reply by Toni on November 29, 2011 at 3:20pm Guys, where can I update the text of the maintenance page?
Displaying an english text for a portuguese network doesn't really make sense :)
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 29, 2011 at 3:26pm That text is translated. I have included a link that shows an example of what it looks like in English, but I have not included an example for all of the languages we support. The message will show in Portuguese -- or whatever language your network is set to.

Permalink Reply by Alex from Bougex.com on November 29, 2011 at 6:52pm :-) Time is an interesting subject.... But can I ask you Eric what kind of maintenance are you going to do ????
Changing servers, database update, changing wires ???
I'm sure you do a great job... but it's just a question for my personal knowledge ! ;-)
Thanks !
Alex
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on November 29, 2011 at 7:05pm Well, Alex, I'd be lying if I said I understood all of the details because they're pretty technical, but a short answer is new equipment like storage arrays for backing up your valuable content, upgrading software that helps run our systems (kind of like your own personal operating system upgrades), and replacing hardware that helps us have stronger secondary backup systems. A combination of software and hardware upgrades.

That's why I LOVE Ning..... It's because I got a great team who is in charge of doing all these technological updates !!!... for less than 50$ a month ! ;-)
That gives me all the time to take care of the marketing of my network.
My network is my baby. I spend more than 12 hours a day on it and thanks to that... It can make me leave correctly.
Hope this update will work and won't make our networks to be down for a long time ! ;-)
Thank you guys for the great job.
Alex
