TAKE PART IN THE POLL BELOW:
- On YouTube you can "Subscribe" to channels.
- On twitter you can "Follow" people.

It's a very popular feature because it gives talented people a chance to create a "following" / fan group who follows their work and this opens up the possibility for them to make a business with advertisers. All this is very good news for YOUR network if you want to attract the productive members.

- The question is: is it possible to "follow" a specific member on a Ning network? (so each time that member uploads a photo, a movie, posts in blog or forum etc. you will get a notification)

Hey Peace!

Yup, it's a feature. Head to a member's "My X" page (like "My Discussions") page, and scroll down the page. You'll see "Follow Evan's Discussions" link, and if you click, you'll get an email every time I post a new discussion. This works for blogs, videos, etc.

That being said, it should be better advertised, and we'll work on that down the road.

Oh my goodness! Can you believe I've been on Ning sites almost two years now and I never realized you could follow a member???

What planet have I been on??

Thanks so much for this tidbit!
Hi Donna

I made the suggestion to ning last year to implement this and they loved the idea immediately. So I was waiting patiently for it to show up in an update. Then some weeks ago I thought I would suggest it to Ning one more time, and that's where I found out that it had been implemented a long time ago but just like yourself I also did not know about it.
Ning want's to make it more visible (put it on the profile page) and this little exercise of mine is just to inspire them to do this sooner rather than later. If the technology is already there, all they have to do is to put a link on the profile page.

Let's hope it will show up soon after the migration to a paid platform taking place in July. The "subscribe to my channel" on YouTube and "follow" on twitter is what is driving the talent to use these websites to build up a following. As soon as they put that link on the profile page WE can start to attract such talent to our sites. Soon people will want to use our networks to build a following.

This will attract talent who will create content which will attract visitors.
Nice, Thanks Evan!!!

It would be great if NING would put follow buttons on our profile pages under our photos...OR, someone can create a code? :D I would but I would probably screw it up lol

Wow. I agree. Why isn't this under a member profile pic and give you the ability to choose what you want to follow on that member?
