Problem: Embedded YouTube videos not showing up properly on home page module

Some recently added videos (embedded from YouTube) are not displaying properly on our homepage: http://www.votecitizens.org (scroll down to our videos module).   They do display on the videos page, although they have a YouTube logo displayed and not an image of the video. View here and compare previously embedded videos with the three recent ones about Range Voting.

Is the problem on the homepage related to the YouTube logo image??

Any suggestions on how I can fix this??

You have to use the old embed code with YouTube videos.  The new code doesn't render the thumbnails correctly.  Below the video (on YouTube), you'll see sharing options and "Old embed code" is one of them.

That corrected it. Many thanks Diane!!

Hey, Michael. YouTube made some changes not too long ago. The new code is iFrame-based for HTML5. Good news is that works on iOS and other devices. Bad news is that it doesn't generate thumbnails on your network. But, we're working on changing that. It's on our Known Issues page, and we hope to get it fixed soon. I will add your voice to the report in our system. Thanks.

Oh, actually, I just heard that we may have this fixed today. I'll try to update you if that is the case.

Hi Eric,

Our network still has the problem. Thanks,

Hanneke

Hey, Hanneke. That is correct. It still does. As I noted in my previous reply a half hour ago:

Looking forward to this, thanks.

HEY ERIC

I am having the same problem. Any luck on a fix

We've pinpointed the problem and should have a fix released in the coming days. Appreciate your patience!

Update! I think this should be fixed now. Try it again with a new piece of content on your network, and if you're still seeing problems, let me know. Thank you!

Eric,

I just embedded a video twice using first the old code (worked fine and I can continue to use this code if needed) and the new code. The new code looks fine in our featured videos module on the home page (except that it has the YouTube logo showing which is annoying but is better than no image as was the case previously. So that part of it is improved. The main problem is the thumbnail in the activity stream where the image still did not show. Take a look at: http://www.votecitizens.org  The activity stream is at the bottom of the page.
