Problem with IE8 with 'Add Comment' button on Comment Wall-Not working

Hi. Hope someone can help as I am stumped here. This is definately ly an IE8 problem as have just had the same thing happen with adding a Paypal 'buy now' button to another site. In a nutshell the button 'Add Comment' button does not work. At all. On any of the NING sites I have. But - it works fine in Firefox. Of course it's IE8. I have fiddled to the max with my browser settings - security settings, javascript etc etc. To NO avail. It also won't work on any of our other computers running IE8. Any ideas anyone? And - horror - As I said have just had the same thing happen with a new Paypal button. No go in IE 8 - but fine in Firefox? Help.. Anyone...!

Thanks

Graeme Archer

Charles..

yes re NING site..I am trying to add a comment on a members page which goes onto their comment wall at botttom of their page...in IE8 it just won't work when u press the button add comment after putting text in the box above but in firefox it is no problem..driving me me nuts as seems to be a problem with the javascript call function and image floating or something as theres a bit of int on the help forums re it not working in IE8...now found the same thing in a paypal 'pay now' button i created as well yesterday for another site.. wont work in ie8 but no problems in firefox..

ie in firefox page URL shows as: http://aorticdissection.ning.com/profile/bertlegg?xg_source=activit...
(this works!)

In IE8 this is what the page URL shows:
http://aorticdissection.ning.com/profile/bertlegg?xg_source=activity
this does not work!)

cheers Graeme

hey Charles,

thanks! I actually just found a solution for the paypal problem - i wrapped the code up in atag and whoohoo - it now works! Now if i can only get the NING bit to work! I am going to escalate it up to the NING team and see what they think...the body tag bit might be a really good clue as well. Thanks soooo much for all your help. I'm ok now...sorta..up to NING team now.

cheers

Graeme
Hey Graeme, please let us know what you find out as I have been having the same issue with people not being able to post comments on my profile wall as well. thanks.
I just created a new network a few days ago and have had two people say something to the effect that they can't refresh comments -- they have to go into the email notifying them of the reply rather than simply refresh -- and another can't post comments. They're using IE8.

Is this the type of thing we need to submit a technical report for? Does anyone know anything further about this?

Thanks. :)
I use IE8 with Win XP Pro and the "Add Comment" and my PayPal buttons both work fine, but editing a Comment is tedious because as soon as I start to edit near the bottom of a Comment that is larger then the input window it keeps snapping up to about half-way down the code. Using FireFox or Avant works fine however.
I've suddenly got members reporting this problem to me using a range of browsers...
Further to this, I went to see one of my members this afternoon, and saw the problem at first hand on Firefox (and he only had the problem in one group). When I got him to log out, and then I logged in as NC, the problem went away. When he logged in again, the problem came back.....

I've filed a help ticket, as I've now got other members reporting it in different groups, but if you're seeing this as well, it would be good to know.
Hi Tim,

Have you made any changes to either the analytics box or any text boxes in the right hand column lately?

Thanks,
Phil
Hi Phil,

Not for about two weeks (and then it was only to put Adsense back after a month without it - and it was the same code I'd been running for two years).

And there's nothing weird in the right hand column - my site doesn't use complicated widgets. Interestingly, a different member has been able to post a comment in the group where I observed the problem yesterday. So it's not affecting everyone all the time....

Tim
