Required fields when signing up do not apply if they go through the mobile site?
Serious?

Hi Josh,
No. Required profile questions are still required when you sign up via mobile. We did allow someone who wasn't capable of uploading a required profile photo to join without the photo if their device didn't support that, but we changed this recently when Apple added this ability to iOS 6.
Thanks,
Phil

I want to add custom validation.
Pleasey

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on October 3, 2012 at 11:36am This is actually true, which I've explained in my discussion a few weeks back. They are somehow able to alter the parameters of the sign up questions and inserting the number "1". See screen shots below.

I thought Ning had fixed this, but it still remains a problem, which is why they are still able to get through the sign up process without having to answer our questions.
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on October 3, 2012 at 12:30pm Hope I'm not misunderstanding, but they do have to answer the profile question, right? In some way. They can't just leave it blank or ignore a profile question that is required.
I can see that getting spam in this way would be very annoying, but it sort of sounds like these are two different issues. Unless I'm misunderstanding.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on October 3, 2012 at 12:55pm Not two different issues. They are signing up via mobile. You, Eric were the first to explain to me that the reason why these spammers are using my old default network icon, and why they were able to bypass the profile pic is because they were signing up via mobile.
As to the questions, they are supposed to choose one of the items on the list, but are somehow able to insert a "1" in the field instead. It's not just me, that's what others were saying in my discussion weeks back as well.
Permalink Reply by Eric Suesz on October 3, 2012 at 1:25pm Thanks for clarifying. I believe we have a bug report that our team is working on that is related to this, Patrick. So, stay tuned.

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on October 3, 2012 at 1:38pm Thank you, Eric.
Hi Patrick,
That's not specifically related to mobile; we're investigating though!

Hi Patrick,
We'll have to agree to have different opinions on this then ;-)

Permalink Reply by Patrick Chappelle on October 3, 2012 at 1:45pm That we can do Phil. But if I have a case of the stupids today (and it happens), I wouldn't take it personal if you could point out my error (call me a glutton for punishment if you will).
Josh is is referring to sign up questions via mobile, as am I since the trespassers attempting to penetrate my network are using the mobile site to do so, and circumventing my profile questions.
Unless Josh is referring to a mobile application instead? Not trying to be difficult, just trying to ascertain how much these drugs are messing with my head.
Thanks.
