Hey everyone, have any of you other Creators noticed members that sign up, but have a one word entry for all profile questions, and an egg as a profile photo? I have had three of these recently, and they don't appear to be real people... as a side note, I use Feedjit.com, and these "sign-ups" do not seem to register as visitors.... very confused.
I've attached a screenshot.
Any suggestions, advice?
How long before I delete them? Just in case they are real people...
Thanks everyone!

Permalink Reply by Amanda Bears on September 10, 2012 at 7:18am I actually receive TWO this morning, I deleted them right off the bat. I knew they weren't "Mommy's" for my mommy site.
Permalink Reply by conner on September 10, 2012 at 10:54am I had one of these this morning on one of my networks! Anyway the "egghead" has been removed. I'm not sure what this is all about or where they are coming from. The email was a quirky looking thing and said it was a gmail address.
Permalink Reply by conner on September 10, 2012 at 3:55pm I just got sites restored and back up and running here from the earlier godaddy outage and noticed two more of these "egghead" sign ups! I don't know what its all about or where they're coming from. I'm just deleting them. I have also went in now and set my new memberships to be approved... I guess this is the best and safest thing to do!
I would like to know if anyone has any info on these...whatever they are!? LOL
I'm getting a couple of these a day now across three networks. Because of the nature of my networks (we ask private questions and these bots don't even try to answer them, just using the same one word) I can assure you these are bots and you can feel safe declining them as spam.
Sure would be nice to know where it's coming from. Since I started getting these on all networks it just "feels" to me like Ning networks are being targeted.
Permalink Reply by Damien Hannah on September 10, 2012 at 7:12pm I have a theory so far, just what my imagination is coming up with. I feel like this is someone I chose to follow on twitter, or at least some twitter accounts that are able to visit websites and sign up for them. I assume it's Twitter because of the egg profile photo. It may be a front though, so that it would seem that it was coming from Twitter.
Also, another thing I'm thinking, what if these profiles that are being created by Anonymous, or a system set out by them, which played a role in this attack on GoDaddy?
a lot to consider when trying to follow the clues.
Here's what I can think of that may affect these egg sign ups.
-Twitter/Facebook/all others avail. Integration.
-GoDaddy .com address
-Feedjit.com real-time visitor stream
-Google Adwords
-easyonlinehits.com - 25000 targeted redirected visitors.
If you can think of anything else that may bring more specifics on the source/method of these bots gaining network access, and what the point of these members even is, please suggest your ideas, this is obviously a growing problem that needs to be stopped!
If you're getting egg member sign ups, are you using any of the things I just listed as well? Let's find a constant!
Permalink Reply by Amanda Bears on September 10, 2012 at 7:49pm So far today alone (which this has NEVER happened before) I have received 6 sign ups with the egg. I have specific questions on my network when you sign up (mommy related) and they answer them all the exact same, with one word. I just had one register 1 minute ago I suspended. To me this is odd honestly, only because my network NEVER gets new people, ever, and I haven't ever had any spam on it either until today.

If you are experiencing these "Ghost/Bot Sign-Ups" I may have the answer to where these are coming from!
Please check your Twitter account! It will take a while, but I think the problem is that we who are having this problem, are following bots on Twitter. These bots have the same profile logo (egg) and I believe that they can "follow back" and read your posts for links, if that link has a Twitter sign up/sign in, I believe it's doing so, and profile questions must have a script for auto entry of the single word we're seeing.
I'm currently going through my followers, and who I'm following, getting rid of all bots with this "egg" profile photo.
I'll let you know if I notice the "egg" members stop now, if so I have found the source!
Hope this helps!!
Permalink Reply by Damien Hannah on September 10, 2012 at 10:36pm have you deleted that twitter account? Are you auto-posting to twitter by posting on your network? Are people referencing you or something, I don't know, but twitter's got to be the culprit. I had like 7 or 8 bots sign up today, but I haven't seen another sign up since unfollowing the 10-15 bots I was somehow following!
Still waiting to see if I will have another bot sign up, if not ,it's coming from bots you follow on twitter for sure.

Permalink Reply by Damien Hannah on September 11, 2012 at 3:44am Please check your twitter followers, and the people you follow on twitter for this same "egg" profile logo! I unfollowed every one I had, like 10-15 of them! This seems to have stopped my "egg" logins today. Had six earlier, maybe more... none now, been quite a while!
