I just noticed that someone on my network just posted a Link using the Status update and it is automatically turned the url into a short url with NING in it. Was this a feature that was released with the Twitter feature... I am not a fan of it.. and really don't want it on my network . Is there a way to turn this off..

This was the link entered - http://www.ruralrainbow.org/

it was turned into this - http://ning.it/8snJ98

I am not sure I like this change...

I hope ning can offer some input on this

Hi Robert,

Yes, this was in the post here, "In the spirit of 140 characters, we're also rolling out a brand-new URL shortener that will automatically condense hyperlinks to shared content."
You can check the box to not use it, however it will drastically reduce what you can say with the url you share.

Thanks!
Laura
can it be turned off ..? I prefer not to have Ning urls on my site
Hi Robert, you can uncheck the box on a per-tweet basis, but otherwise, no. This isn't the Ning.com url, it is the url shortener.

Thanks,
Laura
sorry Laura, I reposted on the other linked discussion .. I will delete that.
I understand it is a shortner. but it includes NING in it . Can't the shortner be turned off with some code. I am a premium Network and don't want Ning to be that present on my site.

Thanks for getting back to me
Right - it wasn't possible for us to code an individual shortener for every single network, so yes, it relates to Ning, but links back to your url.

Laura
so I guess the only option is to remove the status feature from my network ...
Thanks
Robert
funny thing is I don't see the shortner pop up on my network when i enter links in the url even if the status is over 140 ... any reason why that may be not showing up ?
Hi Robert,

The shortened urls are generated using the new Twitter sharing link that sits beside or underneath the old Share link on profile and detail pages. There is some css that you can use to hide it which has been posted in other threads.
Thank You Phil... I appreciate your reply...
