In response to the announcement today I have made a buisiness decision and will be shutting down a few of my networks. http://gotgas.ning.com/ , http://grassrootsinfo.ning.com/ , http://homechefnetwork.ning.com/ and http://noreserve.ning.com/ I have hope that my one successfull network will benefit from the Ning announcement but I am wondering how many other networks will have to make the same decision to shut down.

I thought it would be interesting to see the impact of Nings decision by asking anyone that is going to shut down to post it here.

Funny you should say that. It's the same for me and it's not something I would have predicted. Recent changes I think crystallize what may have laid dormant in one way or another and I think that is a good thing.
I will need to shut down a few of my sites. I need to put most of my time and money into my top two sites. I suppose this will make me focus on what works, but I wouldn't have known what works if I hadn't been able to test many of my ideas and domain names.
I just deleted two of my networks. Hit delete, confirm password, then they are gone.

Sad. Feel like I need a memorial service or something.
Hey, gabet123. I think I see one Ning Network in that list and it has four members and only one test topic. The other links don't seem to work. Are they the right links?

I'm curious: What might change this difficult business decision of yours? What is your one successful Ning Network that you'll be sticking with?
Hi Eric,

Thanks for the reply. The links you reference are all dead because I deleted the networks today. They were mostly test networks and ideas that I had that I thought might work but I didn't have time to cultivate but was hoping to one day. Why pay to hold it when you can delete it and then come back and create it again when you have more time. I just didn't see the value in paying to hold on to them until I had time to play with them. My successfull network is http://hhoinfo.ning.com we have about 2400 members and growing. Hopefully the new changes will work out for this network. I wish it fell into the educational category because that is what it truely is but I am not a teacher of k-12. It is a colaboritive Hydrogen research community. Feel free to join us if you like to think outside the box. We have a lot of fun and you meet the most amazing people in there!
I do want to thank Ning for allowing this service to be free for so long. Thanks for not making it retroactive :)

Ah, there it is. Now I am getting that link to come up. Well, I have to say that your HHO site is really promising. Looks great, actually. Great idea and a very forward-thinking topic. Am I correct in guessing that you would go with the Ning Plus plan should you decide to stay? I hear what you are saying about potential. We will be providing folks with a trial period so they can give an idea a test run to see how it flies.
No I was thinking about the Pro solution since it has video We do a lot of video on HHOINFO.
Hey eric, why can't uploading music and videos be on the ning plus? I love ning because of it's very well designed features but being a teenager I cannot afford pro. I have to pay for college, plus gas. I am able to afford plus but it doesn't have the main feature which is necessary for my network: music and video uploads. I currently pay 12.50$ for premium services and I would have no problem paying 20$ for plus. My network ( Noisetrend.com ) is a music network and I need artists to be able to upload songs and studio update videos. I still am disappointed how a feature that was once free is only being allowed in Ning Pro which is priced at $50/month.
Not shutting down too... Will get 2 more networks soon.

Not shutting down. Having too much fun and am willing to pay a reasonable sum to do so.
I've made the executive decision, just now, to move friscojazz.org to a Google group. I was going to use it to try and promote all the jazz programs in my town. But now that I have to find funding, it's not worth it. I'll just allow folks to communicate via another free method and keep truckin'.
I'm going to move elsewhere. I had set up a community for a volley team and I was working right now on a music-themed network.

Both are no-profit communities, so there's no possibility to get money for paying one of the new Ning fees.
