You can remove that sign up/sign in box

But you will have to create a text with these links (Sign out/Inbox/Alerts/Friends- Invite/ Settings.)

Add that text box( with what you wanted) in the left column so it can only appear on the homepage

Thanks Lil Ace! I am not sure I know how to do what you suggest, but I am happy to know that it is possible to do what I want! Do you have time to spell it out for me step by step?

Hi Lil Ace

Reading your suggestion above regarding text box with prompts, what url would i use to enable a sign out link or more specifically tab. I am keen to remove sign in/sign up box and replace profile settings with tabs, particularly a sign out tab.

Hope you can help

Steven

Not that I have tried exactly what you want to achieve, but the language editor at

{yournetwork}/main/language/list

would be my weapon of choice.  Search for "Sign up" and change the 'translation'.

Thanks the_real_macfly! I'll see what I can do there.

Hi Adrianne,

I assume that you are trying to make the language more understandable, but you have got me confused because your first  line sends current members to sign up which is for new prospective members. Now it also looks like you've got a couple of other links you would like to include. To add all this language is difficult since the sign up/ sign in box has a set size so all of that won't fit. You will need to do what Lil Ace suggests and set that original box to not display and set up your own box on the left column at the top. Now having said all that I'm going to suggest that you stay with the standard  sign-up box and just add a profile question (required) to ask about US citizenship. I suspect some prospective members might take offense by that question but without knowing why you're asking that, it can be done. That would allow you to search for that answer and/or sort manually. If you want to go ahead with a new box let me know. I'll help as much as I can.

James

Hi James, I know my question sounds confusing. Here's the deal.

The AWC Stockholm is a member organization. People apply for membership through a standard membership form that is currently available on the "old" website.

I have been tasked with setting up a new website that will incorporate social networking.

Thus the Ning site I am currently building.

So, once I migrate the URL of the "old" site to our new Ning site, I have to send an email to all of the the AWC members inviting them to sign up to our Ning site so that they can start networking with other members. Members range in age from 20-80.

SO, I need the Sign Up/Sign In box to have super clear instructions for current members of AWC. Also, so that potential AWC members realize that if they Sign Up for the Ning site, they are not applying for membership to the AWC. That will still involve filling out a membership application that I will now host on Google documents and that is available from the publicly visible main page.

Does that make sense? And thanks again for your offer to help!!!!! I do want to go ahead with the new box!

Hi Adrianne,

I've pretty much got this worked out and will be able to use the standard box on the right. Found the spot on where to expand the height! I need three things from you.

1. the address (url) for the signup page on your new Ning network

2. the address for the page you want American citizens to be redirected to (first here)

3. the address for non-citizens (second here)

Here is how it looks. Give me any changes you would like to make and I will try to implement them.

James

Postscript:

The Sign up, sign in and the two here 's will be hyper-links and will take on the color that you set for links on your site.

Nice James
It is sweet, isn't it?

Sorry for the delay! My man took a header down the escalator so I've been taking care of him.

Wow! What I nice surprise to see that you've sussed my Sign Up/Sign in box dilema!

Here is the info you've requested:

1. the address (url) for the signup page on your new Ning network

http://awc-stockholm.ning.com/main/authorization/signUp?

2. the address for the page you want American citizens to be redirected to (first here)

https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform?formkey=dHg4MVQ5MXlvS0Exd2...

3. the address for non-citizens (second here)

https://spreadsheets0.google.com/viewform?formkey=dEttVVg2bk1wSzJWd...

I just noticed that I would need to move the "You can also sign up with: (and the corresponding Facebook, Twitter, Google, and Yahoo! icons) up to be placed under the Sign Up/Sign in section that is above the line and before the "Not a member of the club" text begins.

James, I am thrilled that you figured this out!
