I rarely complain about having to decline spammer accounts on Ning Networks. It is what it is. But wow, this is crazy. I can barely keep up with this new influx of spammer accounts applying for Ning Networks. I receive at least 2 every hour from several Networks. They all have something about Hairstyle Promos. Anyone else?
Ning, anything we can do about this?
Thanks,
Jen

A suggestion for Ning; "Spam" option in the standard "Accept" or "Decline" options for new members because at the moment the option isn't immediately available.

Permalink Reply by Kim on November 6, 2012 at 10:12am yep been getting them for days, and several times a day!
Permalink Reply by Shannon @ SyfrSpace on November 6, 2012 at 10:35am We are getting them as well. Can someone please tell me, if these are robots, how are they getting past the Captcha screen? Forgive my ignorance, but I thought that was supposed to stop the spam, and it seems to have worked for us until recently.
Permalink Reply by mobile.ning.com on November 6, 2012 at 1:11pm I have the same question? How it is possible that they validate their fake emails?
The answer seem very simple. NING Email validation is failing!!! IF it were working we would not have this mess or at least less of it.
NING needs to assure that email validations is working properly and have some kind of RULE like LinkedIn: Flagging
NING also need to look at creating a data base of the spammers we have reported in our Networks. If an email address gets say 12 reports, then for sure it is a spammer, son NING should automatically block the registration process in any other network.

Permalink Reply by Shannon @ SyfrSpace on November 7, 2012 at 8:26am Yesterday I set the sign up requirement on our network to require both Captcha and the sign-up quiz. I also have it set to verify email addresses. This morning 2 more of these member requests came through. How can this happen?

So far only 4 in one day but they are the first I have seen in my new network. None since Nov 5
Permalink Reply by Truelee Blessed on November 6, 2012 at 2:49pm OH I had them!! I kept suspending them, so they have to use a new email each time. If you delete them then they can create a new account. Then I sent emails to them all and said we dont accept spam members and if they would like to create a real account that would be great!...lol havent had any since another thing that gives them away to me is I have profile questions to sign up for my site and they answer all four questions with a one word answer and the same one word..............................till I have enough admin to keep track I have it set for members to be approved first then just suspend them for spam.....................remember dont delete or the can come back with the same addy
