I made a support ticket for an issue,

If people don't want to receive any emails, they can switch that of in their profile settings.

BUT: it seams that as soon as you reply or make a discussion you will still follow it and so, receive emails. The only way is to hit the button "stop following"...

Can also this setting be changed to default off when people check the box to not receive any email at all or an extra check box?

Hey Stefaan!

I think if they uncheck the box on their email settings page, they should actually stop following discussions by default when they post or reply to them. Are you not seeing that? I could be wrong.

Hey Evan,

That's what I would have believed in the first place, until I got a reply from the Ning support team:

Thanks for getting back to me. Even if someone chooses to receive no email notifications, they can still choose to follow a Forum or get notifications from a Group. These settings are separate from those in the Settings menu that is linked from your profile page. To stop receiving these notifications you must go directly to the Group or Forum and choose to stop following. If this member is receiving notifications from a Group or Forum that he's not following, please send me a link to the Forum or Group so I can test this out.

Cheers,
Shaun

So I can say, indeed that's not what a member is seeing...what do you think?

Hey Stefaan!

Yup, I'm definitely aware that, after turning off your email settings for notifications, you can *elect* to start following a discussion. However, I thought that the *default* was that you would not follow a discussion if you had turned off your email settings.

Hey Evan,

I created a test profile to give it a go...and indeed it does what it's supposed to be doing!

Although I believe our member did this, I'll double check to see if he selected the "not recieve any mail".

If he did, I'll get back in contact with Shaun...

I was a little mislead by his reply...

I had an issue with a member like this so I fianlly got him on the phone and found that we was clicking "follow" to try to turn them off, when in fact he was turning them on by doing that... LOL

my members aren't that...no just kidding :)

Thanks for the info...I'm waiting for his reply and will keep you posted!
