Has anyone started working on a method for tagging of Ning network content? Specifically:

- Tagging (in retro) of existing content by pre-defined taxonomy

- Tagging of future content when published through drop-down menu and/or predictive text (with pre-defined taxonomy as categories to choose from) (similar solution to Zemanta, Open Calais, or Tagaroo on WordPress?)

- Publishing of content based on assigned categories/tags for the purposes of personalizing the user experience (e.g. recommended content, content for subscriptions based on user-defined profile tags and interests, etc.)

I'm looking for semantic API, AJAX, Java, etc. solutions to add to the Ning platform that could do one or more of the above-mentioned...Many semantic solutions out there but wondering if anyone has started to build or implement a similar solution for their network?

Thanks!

TJ has an awesome tip for this on his site. Use it on mine and it has transformed the structure of my site

I'd go so far as to say that this solution should be part of the Ning platform as standard. Categories would be ok but users expect blogs to be tagged, so why bother with categories too?

Well, I am sort of using categories and tags interchangeably...I am looking for a solution that will allow me to choose a taxonomy for the users to standardize the tags across the site's content to make content on the network more discoverable.

I've noticed that people will add a tag, eg. "social media," but spell it differently or use a different version, eg. "socmed," "sm," "social media," "socialmedia," "scoialmed", etc.

Hi,

I'm also interested in exploring this. It would make such a huge impact on the site and increase navigation and discoverability tremendously. It seems odd, it's not avalable as a basic function in some ways. Does anyone have any ideas - maybe NING could add it to their product roadmap?

Katie

I've been working on a list of commonly used (or preferred) tags on my network, but it's a manual update kind of thing, not something that's automatic.

Hi SweetPotato,

Thanks for posting the link to the page on my site that is a possible partial solution to this problem.

I'm glad that my code helped transform the structure of your site!

FOR EVERYONE WHO IS INTERESTED in a deeper solution to blog tagging so your blog posts may be easier to find, please see this post here at Creators:
