How has the Ning platform helped you and your Social Network purpose?

  1. Please tell us your Network Purpose/Theme:
For example - - Business, Good Cause, Charity Work, Non-Profit, Hobby, Alumni, Family Tree, Networking, Personal, Fun, Relationship, etc...
  2. Tell us how Ning has helped. Heck, tell us your story. :-)
  3. If you would like to share your Network link (no ads please), please do.
  4. Kindly, please do not make this just a place to drop your backlinks - - tell us about your Ning Network. Or, we'll be breaking the guidelines of this site. And the Discussion will need to be removed. This Discussion could become a huge inspiration, and mini knowledge base, for a lot of Network Creators. We'd like to keep it around. ;-)
  5. Please do not make this about complaints, but how has Ning helped you and your network.
We'd all love to hear about your Social Network, and how Ning has helped you accomplish your dreams and/or purpose.

Hello Jen

the said network acts like an Umbrella for us, we have Scattered across the world by this network we feel the pressence of our home (Karnataka), as of now we using it for entertainment purpose, and sometimes we talk about serious issues too recently Nothern Karnataka was caught by flood...like these it keeps us informed whats going in our state may be Poltics, Movies, Songs, Celebretiys and much more...

in future we are planning to in a multi way direction.

Our Dream is to make these as GLobal Hut....for our Language Speakers, and help them in hand in hand to fight their obstacles and be happy with the connected SITE

Thanks
iLoveKannada
Very nice plans iLoveKannada. Just seeing the words "Our Dream..." makes me smile.

iLoveKannada,

our Ning network is our Bisaya language as well,
same purpose as you do.

Thanks to Ning

Ning taught me that my problems were not all technical. I always thought my lack of success on the web had to do with the fact that I am not very technical. However, Ning now allows me to have a very good site(s) and still I am having trouble achieving my goals online.

My main problem is getting traffic.

My secondary problem is getting active members when I do get some traffic.

My third problem is that some subjects just don't do well online.

However, I am still learning and adapting.
Hi Tom,
Very cool that the Ning platform has enabled you to build good sites, and dive head first into the world of online technology and social networking! Keep your chin up on achieving your online goals. It's tough, no question. Perseverance, hard work, and a little faith, can go a long way. Be encouraged.
;-)
Wishing you special success,
Jen
I share your frustrations, Tom. It's easy to build a "place" on the net with sites like Ning. It's difficult to get traffic and even more difficult to get visitors to become members.
Tell us your Ning story!
My life would not be the same without Ning. Ning is a refuge for communities that may not find room to breathe on other platforms that don't allow you to experiment with their "product." It is very easy for me to well up with tears and I feel it now.

I made friends who share a common interest I never would have met ever. Friends free from the limitations of age, geography, or political affiliation. I have also had good arguments - the good kind where your common interests forces you to understand where each other is coming from even though you may disagree.

I celebrated birthdays and have gotten other members together to celebrate the birthdays of some members whose own family did not even celebrate or acknowledge their birthday. I, myself, am in New Jersey and a member in Australia sent me a T-Shirt for my birthday. It was a tangible expression of our relationship I will never forget. Something I happily share as a specific and measurable result of our community :-).

I have been moved by the strength of my members. One member in another part of the world had the experience of someone jumping off a building to their death right in front of them. They were distraught and shared it with me personally. I told them to share it with the group and she was overwhelmed by the outpouring of support of the other members who shared experiences of death in their own life and made her feel not so alone.

A member in the US who collects Titanic memorabilia connected with someone in the UK whose ancestors were on the Titanic.

I could go on suffice it to say that this present reality is the Altered Future Ning created by giving individuals the power to create their own communities about things they are passionate about. I am sure these stories are like a few sand particles in the hourglass of Ning's existence and I hope it never ends.
Nice stories! I love the Titanic story, very cool - - and the Birthday story. I had a similar heartwarming experience on one of my sites. A lot of the members got together and created a personalized photo slide show with their pets, for my Birthday. THEN, they scheduled a chat party behind my back, LOL. One of them who is a friend offline, called me via phone, to get me in the chat room. Now I gotta say, never dreamed I would receive an online surprise Birthday Party! It was really awesome, just amazed me.

Thank you for sharing, Garfield.
:-)
Awesome:) Yes, I really enjoy my friends here on Ning Creators:) Let's see, there's one I talk to every couple of days about technical stuff (that would be you, my friend), then there is Jen who makes me smile with her witty answers, then there is Jerry, who I found out loves Extreme Makeover: Home Edition as much as I do... And of course I've had some conversations with Laura and XP:) You never know... Maybe you will be next to get a big surprise like this:)
