We used to have this:
Then we got this:
But since many people liked the old Dashboard icons view, and since Ning still offers this view as an option, the question is: do we really need the Dashboard menu both on the Dashboard page AND as a drop down menu?
Why not simply offer the best of two worlds:
1) A drop down Dashboard menu accessible everywhere
2) A Dashboard page with icons
Make sense?

Permalink Reply by soaringeagle on May 23, 2011 at 5:06pm the reason i think the icons were abandoned is new features added meant a dozen new icons making it more confusing, the optional icon view we still have is missing icons for some features like the file manager on others
i like how things are but feel some things could be condensed easily, like members management and moderation could be combined into 1 call it members control where you can susspend or promote all from 1 menu

Permalink Reply by Brian Floe on May 23, 2011 at 7:35pm I basically like the idea, but then we would really need the on page notification system for inbox messages somewhere else. Inbox messages is a status indicator that does not belong in a menu, no more than the "feature" belongs in the Options menu :(
