Would it enhance your visitors experience if they could browse through the most popular content without ever leaving the main page? Simply by clicking an interactive leaderboard module with no page reloads required?
The leaderboard module is a great feature for a Ning network. It's like latest activity, only it's most popular activity.
NCs can choose to set it to display the most popular activity today, this week or this month. So which to choose? Hmmmmm ...
For users who visit a few times a week, the most popular this week might be best because if the NC sets it to most popular today, this weekly visiting member has no idea what has been the most topic this week. The same goes for each of the other choices, each appeal to a certain kind of visitor: weekly, monthly or daily visitors.
But wait ! Then why not let the visitor choose the leaderboard that fits their individual use of the network, rather than letting the NC pick one universal option that will never appeal to all the networks visitors anyways?
And while we're at it, how about choosing whether you want to display top content, photos, forum posts etc. ? Let's give that option to the visitor as well.
The NC chooses the default display mode!
But the interactive leaderboard module satisfies the need of all your visitors.
Members can add photos to the photo library, movies to the movie library, posts to forum and blog etc. etc.
Visit my profile for a complete list of all my ideas for Ning, most of which Ning has not yet noticed.
Send this thread to your friends if you would also like Ning to see this idea.
I have not seen or heard about any such plans no. About asking Ning, I have over 50 threads on my profile page with suggestions to Ning which they mostly never reply to, so it's a little difficult getting such a reply, unfortunately.
So I don't know and I haven't asked, but there's always the chance they reply in this thread.

I know. I get a mass email each time you have a suggestion. Or rather did.
I'm not sure if you're saying you are unhappy with receiving "share" emails from me, when I post a new idea to Ning? Or if you're saying that you remember receiving them back when I was making suggestions more often than I do now (they hardly ever respond)? Or if you are saying that "I know", Ning never responds?
I wonder if I could set this up myself in a tabbed content box, with Day Week Monthly tabs. Displaying the leaderboards in iFrames perhaps? Is that even possible if the leaderboard is not set to display on the page somewhere?
To further the original idea, an updated leaderboard module could have two rows of tabs:
Row 1): Content, people, images, videos etc. (shown as icons so there's space enough)
Row 2): DAY, WEEK, MONTH
I just updated the graphics and text to add this extra dimension to the idea. I really like this even more now.
It's becoming like a kind of navigator of what is cool on a Ning network.
