The Private Chat Rooms on all our network not working

We've had numerous complaints from members on the Ben's Friends network of sites. Chat is always going down. Not only is it inconvenient for members, but it leads to a lot of customer service email responses which takes a lot of time.
Please help us fix this.

One of our moderators has this issue with chat:
My point was that if they are not displaying their photo on the right of the screen where it indicates to me how many members are on line, I cannot reach them through private chat to intervene if necessary, or if a mod is on site and 'off the radar', I can not access them quickly through private chat as I cannot click on their photo.

I'm hearing a few different complaint here, so I'll try to clarify.
Are you saying chat isn't working at all? Or, when you say it's always going down does that mean it is disappearing? Intermittently, or is it just completely down for you?
When you say photos of people who are currently in chat aren't showing, I am not seeing quite the same thing. You probably don't know which browser this member was using, but if you can ever find that kind of thing out, let us know. I will say that old version of IE could have issues with the chat, which is built on new HTML5 technology.

It intermittently goes down. this is a constant complaint.
it seems to be down right now on http://www.chiarisupport.org
I'm not so sure on the pictures stuff. that is less important than just being up and live.

Okay, I'm trying a few things out in the background to see if there might be something I can reset. I do see that you're using chat a little bit differently than most, as a standalone page. I wonder if somehow that is an underlying issue, but I don't know why it would be.

we had to create a stand alone chat page because the chat bar on bottom was going down all the time. :)
