TIP: New messages notification Icon

Hi all,

Here's a simple tip which turns your side column Inbox notification text into a simple new icon that is already built-in to your base theme layout. I just thought this method is more noticeable so I have shared this tip. You don't need to upload any images just insert these few lines or copy and paste the attachment code text below into your custom code box and you're all set.

Language Editor Version (with unread count, easy & more integrated)

Go to your Language Editor and search for the keyword 'new'. You can find the target field around mid part of the search result (Page 3) or sample link here: 

http://yournetwork.com/main/language/edit?locale=en_US&q=new&filter=all&page=3

Search for <span %1$s>%2$s</span> new and replace it with:

<span %1$s>%2$s</span> <a class="dy-locked dy-locked-new xj_tooltip"></a>

Hit 'Save' and the new changes should take effect.

Javascript/Custom Code Version (enclose the below with the <script>tags)

Is there any way to apply this for "new member pending" notifications?  It would definitely make them STAND OUT.  Love this tip btw.  Thank you for sharing.

Uh no.  I searched for "new member" and "awaiting approval" trying a few replacements.  "New" is the only thing that appears [no red highlight]......in Firefox and IE.  Clearly I'm doing it wrong.  Will move onto other things.  Thanks for trying.  I truly appreciate it.

I did that initially and replaced it as instructed.  It affected the "inbox" but not the "awaiting approval" area [I tested it with a dummy member].  The element area itself said "<span class="xj_count_users_approve">" so I tried to search for variants of that.  Nothing.   I have not tried the javascript version b/c the javascript I have running already slow down my load time.  Thought that language editor was the way to go but maybe not

ok i tried but i dont use member moderation so can u screenshot it for me i need to see the wording and capitalization

The *1 New Member* is what I would love to see stand out as it tends to blend in during the business day and clients can just cancel out if they're left waiting too long.

Ron I'm still trying to find a method to apply to the "member pending" area on the main page.  The customer code version doesn't function when it comes to that area and a boatload of various searches pertaining to pending approvals have only yielded the actual approval page itself; nothing where the count would increase beyond 1.  Any ideas?  I'm even dreaming a/b this in my sleep now *LOL*

i dont got the time for it but i am certain if u try this

step 1 fame a new freind request and a member pending approval waitting for testing purposes

step 2 search the language editor for %1$s

step 3 every 1 on each page that u cant imedietly identify as NOT it edit add new1 new2 new 3 etc to identify each 1  uniquely save the page

reload the site and lo0k to see if ether  of them changed if not undo your chabges save and go on to next page

im assumming your looking for siomething like

%1$s-%2$s

or even  %1$s <span %2$s> %3$s </span> (%4$s) %5$s

good luck it drove me crazy too but ui didhnt try editing the 1st 10 pages of them to test

Hey KOS, wow this is getting serious :-D sorry but I've been busy lately so I haven't got the chance to check out the language editor.

Anyway to get something going, I do have a custom code version that should work. I tested this on our sandbox site recently.
