We have two changes that we're making today that are very small. However, so many people asked for this over time that I wanted to make sure we got the word out, so I'm devoting a discussion to it here on Creators.
Profile Question limit raised
One big request people have asked about is to increase the limit of profile questions you can ask when new members sign up for your network. The limit has been 12 profile questions for a long time, but we're increasing that to 20. That should give those of you who want to collect a lot of up-front information from new members more opportunity to do so. Of course, we would caution you that asking for too much information can be tricky. If you ask for too much information up-front, some people will inevitably abandon a sign-up form. The more you ask, the higher the abandonment rate. But, some networks need the extra questions, so we're giving you that option.
Removing standard Broadcast Message header
Another request that we've heard over time is to remove the header that appears in a typical Broadcast Message. In fact, our most recent Ning Superstar SweetPotato opined about this (among many other people). We're happy to make this change.
This is the simple message that has appeared in every Broadcast Message you send that has a bit of branding for your network. It previously looked like this:
Some people understandably don't want that message to appear. They've created a nice flashy HTML newsletter template that already has a nice text or logo treatment, making this little swatch of text or HTML superflous. Still want that little identifier of your network? You can always insert your own piece of HTML or text or an image.
I've included a text document attached to this discussion that you can use to reproduce the old version if you want. Or — even better — modify this simple snippet to match your network's color, font, etc.
These aren't groundbreaking changes, but they're ones that you've given us here on the Creators Network. So, thanks for the suggestions!
My art network would benefit a great deal from being able to create a portfolio and having them upload files like that. But in order to keep all the pages clean it would be cool to make it a link that takes them to another questionnaire that is their portfolio that we can either make required to fill out or not. Or at least make it to where in the question we can create our own links for them to follow from.
I like that idea and it shouldn't be too difficult. Then we could add a file or link to a page set up to display a resume or portfolio in lieu of them having to download and save.
We're on the same page. I operate a social & professional network. The ability to upload resumes has always been on my plan and would be the perfect add-on service to provide that we as NC can charge for.
Absolutely agree with the profile questions. I only make certain questions mandatory and it keeps out spammers...never have a problem with that though the same spammers periodically try to answer the questions that are mandatory they way they "think" I am looking for, however, they are incapable of doing this because the questions are very unique. Great job for keeping out unwanteds.
Ditto on that. Very much appreciate having a few more questions for our professional network that serves as a directory. And great idea on being able to upload a file (CV, firm brochure, etc.) A lot of our folks are still paper-centric, and believe their clients are even if they aren't. Plus I could see more innovative 21st century uses for a file upload on the profile. Yes, Eric, please have your people look into this!
Posted a question about two months ago about a way to disable broadcast message header but was told that this was not possible at that time. But the tech guy who replied to my ticket promised to pass the idea to the product team for consideration. And indeed, it's here now!
Thank you Ning!
So very happy we could do this for you (finally). The requests you make through tickets do make a difference. Thanks for making them.
I am not understanding. I do not have the technical capability to do any new header. I liked having it done for me. Am I now on my own?
Hey, Rev and Boris and anyone else who misses the old header! I threw some HTML into a text document that is attached to this discussion. You can use that if you want to have something like the old header. Just paste it into the HTML tab of a new Broadcast Message. If you want to change the color, you can match it with something you're already using by matching the color code from the Design Studio. Or, check out some color choices here.
Perfect thank you Eric.
